Fresh off the ORESTAR via my girlfriend @hannahnoodle.bsky.social: if you’ve gotten an obscene amount of Go Portland Go ads on Meta apps, it’s because they spent $6,300+ on ads in September 😭

Kellie Torres was directly involved in the infamous backroom deal with Zenith Energy while Chief of Staff for Dan Ryan. She was lobbied directly by Zenith and the Working Waterfront Coalition. If you want more fossil fuel industry domination in local politics, Torres has experience with that.

You're weekly reminder that some Christians will lie to your face. The Jesus March in Portland this year had at most 400 people, probably closer to 300. One Christian supremacist propagandist posted this recently, claiming they had 4000 young Christians marching through Portland.

Kyle Prosen’s PACs (DitchMitch, fix multCo, and goPDX) finally reported some transactions to ORESTAR, filed last night at midnight. United For Portland Action Fund gave $100,000 to goPDX, which then ~likely~ funneled $50,000 each to DitchMitch and fix multCo.

flatly refusing to vote just because the paperwork wasn't perfect is a failure of leadership. Process should serve governance, not gridlock it.

Yep, Council moderates wouldn't even back Kanal 4, the final amendment which was to simply say that the negotiating team should seek a return on investment for Portlanders in the Moda deal. Green: "Portlanders are watching, and they are pretty upset at the way we steward their funds in this City."🔥

I did a breakdown on the city's negotiators on the Moda deal last month (linked here). Worth noting Multnomah County announced their Moda negotiator today: Longtime Blazers biz strategist Chris Oxley (& board prez of Sport Oregon, the group lobbying the city/county to keep the Blazers in Portland).

Who is leading Portland’s Moda Center negotiations with the Blazers?
Here’s what you need to know about the contractors the city tapped to lead these talks.

A shocking mtg Many councilors refusing to even *consider* term sheet amendments (like below) that would better protect Portlanders, require a breakdown of how $120M+ in public funds would be used, or analyze impact of Moda Center funding on other city services All voted down without discussion

Dundon is going to bitch and moan regardless. Someone explain to me why the City shouldn't therefore put out a MUCH stronger term sheet now and continue sharing information and coming the table... unlike the Blazers.

the push to hold Tom Dundon to merely INVEST IN HIS OWN TEAM AND NOT LEECH OFF PUBLIC MONEY is probably dead. wild that seven of our councilors are just handing money we don’t have over to this cheapskate loser Tom Dundon.

Councilor Pirtle-Guiney’s bs monologue about not voting yes on any amendments until negotiations go further… why would you come into negotiations without a clear term sheet of what you are aiming to get? why wouldn’t you start out strong?

unfathomable that the city is being asked to hand over four hundred million bucks with virtually no information on what the blazers are planning to spend it on - and that the loudest proponents of the deal are the councilors and business leaders who otherwise complain the city is poorly managed

most of our elected reps failing us over & over & over again in portland city council today. Councilors Dunphy, Clark, Pirtle-Guiney, Smith, Ryan, and Zimmerman not engaging with amendments, not proposing any… where’s the courage? where’s the will to ask for more for the people you represent?

pettiness is NOT a good look for @councilordunphy.bsky.social today in the pm session, as he is clearly placing his own feelings about fellow councilors above good governance. i have been a big fan of his council presidency thus far, so this is real disappointing to see.

it's also pretty interesting that "expose yourself to more intellectual diversity from the right" rarely means "hire more experts credulously studying the intellectual basis for Hindu nationalism, the gender politics of the Black Hebrew Isrealites, or the righteous teachings of al-salaf al-ṣāliḥ"

This is a truly fascinating phenomenon. When people say race is constructed, this is what they mean. Whiteness is a slur in the mouths of people who espouse white supremacist ideas *if* it is paired with “liberal” “woman” “urban” “pronouns” etc. It is an incredible piece of racecraft juijitsu.

Q: Why is it so much easier for the US right to organize and be unified than the US left? A: Anti-Black racism. The only consistent thing that the right agrees on, is this. It's what unifies them. But the US left is very anti-Black too! So they try to get the benefits, without helping Black folk.🤷🏿‍♂️

BREAKING, via The Seattle Times: Trump's executive order to restrict birthright citizenship is blocked for at least the next two weeks by a Reagan appointee in Seattle who eviscerated the Trump lawyers present defending the order. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
Senior U.S. District Judge John Coughenour on Thursday was blistering in his criticism of Trump’s action as he granted a temporary restraining order that blocks Trump’s executive order from taking effect nationwide.

“I’ve been on the bench for over four decades, I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one is. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order,” Coughenour, an appointee of Ronald Reagan, said from the bench. “There are other times in world history where we look back and people of goodwill can say where were the judges, where were the lawyers?”

Coughenour interrupted before Brett Shumate, a Justice Department attorney, could even complete his first sentence.

“In your opinion Is this executive order constitutional?” he asked.

Shumate said, “it absolutely is.”

“Frankly I have difficulty understanding how a member of the Bar could state unequivocally that this is a constitutional order,” Coughenour said. “It just boggles my mind.”
