Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett hitting the trail for Alisa Simmons in Tarrant County, Letitia Plummer in Harris County, and Dexter McCoy in Fort Bend County is good politics AND good party building…

We supposedly don’t have enough money to adequately address drainage, infrastructure, homelessness, parks, sidewalks, basic city services or any number of problems Houstonians can see with our own eyes. But somehow there is money to monitor what we’re saying about City Hall.

At some point we have to ask: Why is John Whitmire so comfortable building infrastructure to watch Houstonians while simultaneously being so dismissive when Houstonians demand accountability from him?

There is something deeply disturbing about a Mayor who seems more interested in monitoring Houstonians than actually listening to us.

While John Whitmire lectures this city about fiscal responsibility and tells us what Houston cannot afford, his administration has expanded a COH $620,000 contract with Zencity, an AI-powered Israeli company analyzing Houstonians’ social media posts, Nextdoor conversations, and 311 complaints…

MeidasTouch: What do you make of Trump saying Americans who oppose data centers are backwards and poor? AOC: I mean, how about we put one in Mar-a-Lago? I love that. Let’s put a data center at Mar-a-Lago, and we’ll see how backwards and poor he is in response to that.

Houston has parks that need investment, neighborhoods begging for basic infrastructure, and residents with actual ideas about improving their communities. Imagine putting people to work solving those problems instead of tearing up bike lanes and picking fights with progress.

CM Salinas identified a very real gap in our city’s policy; built a coalition to figure out how to fix it; got support from colleagues, Houston Apartment Association, and community organizations; moved it through committee and ultimately got it across the finish line.

Houston City Council just passed Council Member Alejandra Salinas’ “Right to Air Conditioning” ordinance 12-2, making working A/C a basic health and safety standard in rental housing across the city.

Texas is becoming ground zero for the massive expansion of AI and data centers, facilities that require enormous amounts of electricity and water. Meanwhile, Texans are already asking why their electric bills keep climbing and whether our grid can handle the demand we already have…

Gina Hinojosa is going up on TV across rural Texas with a six-figure ad buy hitting Greg Abbott where he’s becoming increasingly vulnerable: data centers, rising utility costs, and who exactly Texas government is working for. The ad asks a simple question: Why is my electric bill going up?

You REDUCE crime by eliminating POVERTY. The reason that “nice” neighborhoods have lower crime rates is because its people’s basic needs are being met. It is not because of police, surveillance systems, or neighborhood associations. Poverty breeds crime. Rising tide. All ships.

Houston nightlife has ALWAYS moved in cycles. We’ve all been outside long enough know the “lit” area changes every few years: from Downtown to Washington to Midtown to Third Ward, and eventually somewhere else will take the crown as the go to spot.

At what point do politicos—individuals, organizations, campaigns, or otherwise—realize that when the work is about fighting for people’s rights, justice, and liberation, we are in fact, not bigger than the program.

The people who run Houston should have to explain every major spending decision the same way a family explains their household budget: Who benefits? What problem does this solve? And what are we giving up to pay for it? That’s actual accountability.

Earlier this week, Houston City Council approved a nearly $50M housing and community development plan. It sounds like progress, but the real question is whether we’re finally ready to stop treating affordability like a temporary problem and start treating it like infrastructure.

And just like that… we’re officially one month out from Houston City Council’s FY27 budget vote on June 3. Mayor John Whitmire will be releasing his proposed budget on Monday, May 5… but I’m curious to revisit every amendment, “priority,” and last-minute add-on from last year.

I could’ve sworn there used to be a basic rule in politics: if you’re flying into somebody else’s city, somebody else’s state, to do “the work,” you start by listening to the people who’ve actually been on the ground doing it. Not talking over them. Listening. Gaining context.

Dallas and Austin have even stronger immigration policies than Houston and yet those cities have avoided Abbott's threats, writes the editorial board.

If the city of Houston had its own Project 2028, what’s the one thing you’re putting on that list that is a non-negotiable? Not the “it would be nice if...” I’m talking about the thing you’d stand ten toes down on getting done—no compromise, no delays, no excuses.

Houston, we didn’t get “invaded” for spring break—we got discovered. For weeks, it’s been traffic, packed brunch spots, clubs spilling into the streets… and yes, a little chaos. But “that kind of cultural momentum doesn’t happen by accident.” www.houstonchronicle.com/opinion/outl...

What I love most about this Houston Spring Break discourse is that everyone seems to be aligned with the notion that Sylvester Turner would not have allowed any of this to happen… I know it has to be eating John Whitmire up.

First, it was “Jasmine Crockett isn’t electable.” Now, suddenly everybody’s a strategist, mapping out which office she should run for next: • Ted Cruz’s seat, which isn’t up until 2030. • Running against Greg Abbott for governor… which is literally already on the ballot.
