Spent my Labor Day helping my (70+ lovably neurotic control freak) dad change the oil in my car. It went almost perfectly and he didn't even give me grief for having a messy car (our standards are very different). And he saved me like $60 so I couldn't complain if he had.

First week of gainful employment survived! I converted a PDF, edited it, and turned it back and my boss acted like I had performed actual wizardry (he is a boomer who hates computers and my job is to prevent him from having to use them). And I can wear jeans AND there is a large friendly dog.

My new job has an office dog who is a 100lb black lab named Sue. He, yes he, is the most happy soul I have ever met. His head is the size of my torso and contains approximately 3 brain cells, one of which is dedicated entirely to wagging his bludgeon-like tail. I think I will enjoy working here.

Survived the first two days at New Job which in a hilarious irony literally looks into the windows of Old Job. I type a lot and perform technological miracles (upload PDFs for a boomer). I can wear jeans and Tshirts to work and my desk view is a taxidermied cougar. Yay gainful employment!

Contractors here today checking out the windows and balcony roof. They were both very impressed with Godzilla and politely intimidated by Ginger. The looks I get when I mention she is actually smallish by tarantula standards and some species get plate-sized will always entertain me.

After the better part of a week under either a heat advisory, a smoke advisory or both: it was so so so nice to have a Beach Day. Mama duck and 5 babies swam about six feet away from me at eye level when I was neck deep. I also saw loons but they wisely did not get that close.

Another beach day! I need to get there earlier and get a longer lasting shady spot. Even with decent SPF my pasty ass starts crisping in direct sunlight so I have to sit under a tree and microdose (mostly I freckle but I have a visible farmer tan this year, look at me being all outdoorsy).

Went to the Unitarians' pride event! Mostly older hippies playing music and small children covered in rainbows & glitter. Very wholesome! Yapped at some folks about my Don Quixote vs Windmills-esque city council campaign (vote Kate ward 2!). Then went hiking at the state park. What a nice day.

My sugar bowl & creamer pitcher are 100+ year old Pickard china my parents got at their wedding from my grandma’s cousin Dorothy who was a professional model in New York City before WWII. There’s a matching coffee pot but I’m afraid to use it in case it breaks. It’s a cool AF centerpiece set though!

Got up on the roof and helped my (70-year-old multiple heart attack survivor control freak) dad put new gutters on the house. Nobody fell off the roof or had a heart attack or screamed and we went out for Mexican afterwards. It was a good day!

Three hours, two ticks, and a lot of dirt under my fingernails later: the garden is Put In. I myself have an entire row of tomatillos and one more of tomatoes and peppers. Basil, thyme, tarragon, cilantro, oregano, chives, and sage in the raised beds. Dad got grapevines. It's on.

Went to my nephew's last ever track meet. Ended up surprisingly invested in the girls' discus throw. High schoolers (of all body types!) casually yeeting metal frisbees 100+ feet down the field. The girls all had bedazzled sneakers which I sort of want to do now. Hooray, youths!

I have driven past the Clearwater County Museum countless times and never went in until today (my Funemployment Bucket List continues). Truly delightful free small museum. The current exhibit focuses on local artifacts and their backgrounds and I could have spent hours yapping with the staff.
