My Great Depression survivor grandma insisted on paying top dollar for exactly one thing and that was toilet paper. "You get what you pay for", indeed.

just a reminder that your local library has more than just books! many also have dvds, cds, video games, internet hot spots, grindr hookup spots, chupacabras, streaming services, ebooks, audio books, skibidi toilets, gateways to the shadow realm, and so much more! maybe it's time for a visit! ❤️📚❤️📚❤️📚

I am the eldest of two girls and the tomboy so being the designated favorite son was kind of inevitable. I might not be as strong as a man but I have little hands good for detailed jobs and I can differentiate between a roofing screw and a wood screw.

The lumberjack is entirely happy to have me handing shit up the ladder or go get the hammer no the other hammer no the other other hammer and bring it up on the roof and hold stuff while he demolishes a wall. Construction assistant is a gender neutral job at least how I was raised.

My ex never wanted me to help him with Manly Chores like oil changes and hauling firewood so everything took twice as long and it still baffles me. Okay, get your own damn wrench then.

Spent my Labor Day helping my (70+ lovably neurotic control freak) dad change the oil in my car. It went almost perfectly and he didn't even give me grief for having a messy car (our standards are very different). And he saved me like $60 so I couldn't complain if he had.

First week of gainful employment survived! I converted a PDF, edited it, and turned it back and my boss acted like I had performed actual wizardry (he is a boomer who hates computers and my job is to prevent him from having to use them). And I can wear jeans AND there is a large friendly dog.

Sue is 100% the best job perk and everyone's favorite coworker. His attitude is permanently set to "YAY!!!" I am going to have to get dog treats for my desk, what a delightful problem to have.

My new job has an office dog who is a 100lb black lab named Sue. He, yes he, is the most happy soul I have ever met. His head is the size of my torso and contains approximately 3 brain cells, one of which is dedicated entirely to wagging his bludgeon-like tail. I think I will enjoy working here.

I do feel bad for all my new preserved friends but I am pretending it's a natural history museum exhibit and as my dad said "woodland creatures don't die of old age". The lumberjack is openly envious (the first thing I thought when I walked in was how much he would enjoy the decor).

I don't know what its name is (or the elk head, or the stuffed bobcat, or the huge ass marlin not pictured). I am sure we will bond. The cougar stares at the back of my head all day which I will probably get used to at some point. North country private sector office life! At least I can wear jeans!

Survived the first two days at New Job which in a hilarious irony literally looks into the windows of Old Job. I type a lot and perform technological miracles (upload PDFs for a boomer). I can wear jeans and Tshirts to work and my desk view is a taxidermied cougar. Yay gainful employment!

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

Street art in her honor from SE Seattle
A glittery tinsel-fringed illustrated portrait of Dolly Parton on a telephone pole. There's a cartoon voice bubble with a quote from her that says "find out who you are and do it on purpose."

Contractors here today checking out the windows and balcony roof. They were both very impressed with Godzilla and politely intimidated by Ginger. The looks I get when I mention she is actually smallish by tarantula standards and some species get plate-sized will always entertain me.

Entered a photo I took in the county fair and won a 3rd prize ribbon! I have never entered anything I made anywhere. I'm proud of myself just having the nerve to put my art out in public. (Still super gratifying for the old ego though ngl.)

I worked at a public library when two separate spicy ice hockey romances came out at about the same time, both called "Icebreaker", and one is het and one is Very Not and we had to be *extremely specific* when ordering requests.

I was going to go to the beach but being wet outside in this humidity and lying next to a big wet thing while it gets hotter and hotter does not sound super appealing. I don't feel like growing mold today!

After the better part of a week under either a heat advisory, a smoke advisory or both: it was so so so nice to have a Beach Day. Mama duck and 5 babies swam about six feet away from me at eye level when I was neck deep. I also saw loons but they wisely did not get that close.

I want to make a "lol 420 blaze it" joke so bad but it smells like a trash fire and I just dropped grownup money on an air purifier so even my stoner ass isn't finding it that funny.

The final unit in my building wasn't rentable until last month but sure, fuck those guys doing miserable necessary work in heat and smog for our mid-housing-crisis community. This town loves to shoot itself right in the ass on a regular basis.

I have a running debate with the lumberjack about the superiority of summer vs winter and unfortunately he is now winning by default since there aren't smoke pollution days in winter and you can go outside any time as long as you dress properly.

Gave in and bought an air purifier for the pets' sake since I guess we just live in a BBQ now. Maybe my allergies will improve even if my electric bill won't.

Walked on a broken ankle because "it didn't feel as bad as my torn knee ligament so it can't be that bad". My then-boyfriend convinced me to go to urgent care because him carrying me up and down the stairs was not an actual long term solution. That was a surprising x-ray!

Seriously I live here and tolerate -40F in the winter so it DOESN'T do this. At least I'm home under the AC in boxers and a sports bra and I don't have to go out if I don't want to. Which I don't!
Fuck this shit degrees outside

92 damn degrees today. 95(!!) up north in the lumberjack's border town. Think cooling thoughts for his sweaty ass at his unairconditioned(!!) factory job. I told him it was a good day for a 24-hour stomach bug but *you* try telling a 48yo blue collar guy to "take it easy" and "not work too hard".

Family birthday dinner meant Dad made stirfry and Mom made homemade flan(!) and there was also Dunkin Donuts mocha cheesecake and am I lucky that my loved ones all express that love through tasty food. It's not even my actual birthday yet. *belch*

Another beach day! I need to get there earlier and get a longer lasting shady spot. Even with decent SPF my pasty ass starts crisping in direct sunlight so I have to sit under a tree and microdose (mostly I freckle but I have a visible farmer tan this year, look at me being all outdoorsy).

My mom called yesterday afternoon to make sure I was OK (I had been in Target completely oblivious) so that maybe sparked the ol' anxiety goblin. I used to really love thunderstorms and I hope that comes back.

I brought in all my plants, "slept" in shorts and a T shirt in case I had to run down to the basement, and set out the travel box for the tarantula (I can carry/wear the lizard). I look forward to not feeling like this someday!

Went to the Unitarians' pride event! Mostly older hippies playing music and small children covered in rainbows & glitter. Very wholesome! Yapped at some folks about my Don Quixote vs Windmills-esque city council campaign (vote Kate ward 2!). Then went hiking at the state park. What a nice day.

The oldest things I own are a couple of books from the late 18th/early 19th centuries but they are carefully packed away. Runner up daily driver is my grandma’s old cast iron skillet which is only from the 1960’s but I use it for 80% of my cooking.
