I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

I believe one of the new mRNA vaccines was expected to treat colon cancer, and another had the potential to keep pancreatic cancer from recurring. That’s what they’re taking away.

Why not do a placebo-controlled clinical trial in these instances? Because a beneficial version of the medicine exists already, FROM a placebo-controlled trial. It is unethical and immoral to deny people a medicine when they are volunteering to participate in research. 6/

Considering the Federal situation, campuses are encouraging labs to enter partnerships with industry. A plant breeding company reached out to see if my lab could rate their plant lines for their resistance to Ralstonia. I said "maybe, but these assays require personnel time and materials"

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings. But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.
