They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

True not just in publishing/writing. Look at how this new Meta Muse basically jumps into the user's shit, mixes it around, gets it everywhere. Shares their address. Lies to their contacts. Sells their stuff at a low price. Do not let the vampire in. Hang garlic. Sharpen stakes.

Very very bad idea… but how stupid do you have to be to know this is a bad idea and give it your personal email login anyway? If you have to test this for work, set up a sandboxes new gmail, populate it with handpicked content sent from other fake accounts. Last I was asked for my login: Foundry.

Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.

It appears that once an account gains the rude label, it is rude forever. Which seems like a very bad algorithm to me. I can see that for other categories, but ‘rude’ is so subjective, and should not follow you for months or years. On a per-skeet basis it makes sense. Habitual? Mmh. Forever? No.

The AI Companion's display and behaviour are being refined to:

    Reduce interruptions while reading
