⚠️ 100 complaints, zero answers: Volkswagen’s carbon project in Tanzania ⚠️ A Volkswagen joint venture called VW Climate Partner is developing a carbon credit project on nearly 1 million hectares of Maasai land in northern Tanzania – without their free, prior, and informed consent.
Climate action should not come at the cost of the Maasai peoples' rights.

Anonymous, Maasai, TanzaniaFor generations, Maasai communities have sustainably managed their land through pastoralism. Now, a carbon credit
scheme backed by Volkswagen threatens to take their control over their land away.Nearly 1 million hectares of Maasai land in northern Tanzania – almost twice the size of Luxembourg – are supposed to be included in this carbon offset project designed to clean up VW's climate record. For each village, only a few members are involved in decisions affecting entire communities.
A Maasai delegation asked to meet VW's project leaders in Germany, but they were turned away.

It would be weird if the federal prosecutors and the state prosecutors didn’t talk about their cases against the same person.

Cornell University treating Gaza protestors more harshly than gang rapists is a real statement of values. It’s almost like violent domination by the powerful is the core belief of leadership.

At Cornell, one person— Christina Liang — handles every disciplinary case, including the Cornell Seven’s and the suspensions of over 40 protestors. Liang wrote in 2025 that “2024 was one of the most challenging years of my career…and it helped me learn that caring less is okay.”

I am so mad about Cornell having fraternities. Which I do blame. Rape is systemic and structural. They create the systems and structures which perpetuate it. And it is very often fraternities. So yes obviously get rid of them. That’s a step one obvious thing.

A big reason Cornell and other universities don't pursue investigations of sexual assaults at fraternities is, I suspect, the knowledge that once they lift that rock even SLIGHTLY they'll be legally required by Title IX to call in fucking AIRSTRIKES on entire rows of Greek life houses

when i was at cornell we feminist students who had a group name I've forgotten, worked on the sexual assault policy. We had a series of protests that escalated and culminated at the shareholders meeting (if I am remembering this correctly). They've know it was a problem since like 1995.

You know when public attention can reverse a prosecutorial decision like this you almost get the sense that the decision to shrug it off in the first place was not based on an assessment of the quality of the evidence so much as an assessment of the seriousness of the crime.
