My impression is this is pretty typical, and its another thing that persuades me that... to be honest... The Cosmopolitan Way Of Life is simply superior. The people throwing the authoritarian temper tantrum are simply those ignorant of its benefits.

A man who is ineligible to be President is President. SCOTUS is acting as a wing of the Republican Party. ICE and CBP have been converted into openly partisan paramilitary units, sent, by the President's own words, to terrorize "Democrat cities" and "Democrat communities" How about shut the fuck up

The sentences handed down today in Texas are a threat to the possibility of a democratic society. The prosecution is rife with constitutional violations, but 30 years in prison (more than anyone for January 6) for moving some magazines? 50 years for those not involved in even planning the protest?

An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.

The political spectrum under Trump according to me. 1. People appalled and terrified by what is happening and what is yet to come. 2a. People who have only a vague idea of what is going on and don't believe it can be that bad. 2b. As above, but they are angry at 1 for "being hysterical"

Q: Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus? TRUMP: Suspending who? Q: Habeas corpus TRUMP: I don't know. I'd rather leave that to Kristi.

Truth truth truth. Anywhere where truth is valued and not systemically eliminated will be targeted. It will lead to the frustration of the centrists who try to find moderation with fascism. With liberals who try to make peace with it. Truth truth truth. It’s an essential ingredient to freedom.

The “problem” with vaccines? They so effective at preventing deaths that they create generations of people that question whether disease was a problem in the first place because they have never experienced the horrors of a world without vaccines.

I honestly feel like this is all being done to mock, not to persuade. They know it's absurd to use a traumatic head injury that they caused as an excuse for starvation. They know those angry about it can't do anything about it. The absurdity is a flex of power.

Words/phrases Democrats should never use: * bipartisan * my Republican friends * real, valid, legitimate, serious, important (to describe issue raised by Republicans) * yea (when voting on Republican bills) * distraction (to describe bad thing Republicans did) * woke (in derogatory sense)

The thing about the right pretending to care about free speech on campus in order to end free speech is that it was obvious that's what they were doing, mostly because they said that's what they were doing, and all the "neutral" media people who credited them with good faith were part of the scam.

This is the core proposition & selling point for reactionary thought: not that they are better, but simply that *everyone* is corrupt, everyone is a crook, everyone's just out for themselves, so you might as well get yours. That is the molten core of right-wing thought everywhere.

the three unfortunately frequent problems “people don’t believe negative facts about the right”, “people believe any bullshit about the left”, and “the press thinks their job is to anticipate what people want to hear” are self-perpetuating

the thing about “democrats should take popular cultural positions” is that what constitutes popular is a function of an interaction between the public and elites. if a faction of elites start screaming about a vulnerable minority and another faction says they have a point, this shapes the public.

Navigating the Nonsense and Propaganda of Clownish Authoritarianism Ignoring what Trump says won’t work. Constant outrage is not a viable strategy either. I suggest we ask three questions that can help us engage Trump’s dangerous outlandishness. Some thoughts from my new piece: 🧵

What we’re done is create a massive information infrastructure which privileges conspiracy theories, demagoguery, bigotry, lies, and hysteria - much larger than the traditional news infrastructure. It’s the main information source for many. And then new political movements evolved to exploit it.

Everyone was complaining that the Thucydides Trap between the US and China wasn't real but the Trump 2.0 policy will be to demand endless tribute from *allies* and destroy his own position of power, which was also the exact same playbook of the Athenians
