thanks to the popularity of umamusume, a truly unfathomable number of people are mourning the death of one of history's losing-est race horses. it's a bittersweet situation on multiple levels

Haru Urara died of colic, a form of gas build up that is often deadly to horses, but was apparently healthy up to that point. I find it difficult not to feel a little weird about a situation in which an animal suffered to make money for a bunch of different people, only to be declared an inspiration for never giving up despite her apparent desire to be doing anything else – and then a lot of other people became parasocially attached to an anime girl, further obscuring, at least in some cases, the wants and needs of real animals trapped in a broken system. But it sounds like Haru Urara lived out her final years in peace, and that’s better than nothing.

"One of these beautiful tragedies," reads a comment on the Umamusume subreddit. "We didn't expect it so soon, but our gal made it to 29 years old. Lived the last of them in absolute luxury and love."

As JJK wrapped last year I found myself thinking about the upcoming Virgo–Pisces eclipse cycle. Especially in connection with Gege’s next project. Well, Gege’s new short-term series will debut in WSJ next week. Gege will be handling the writing, while the artwork will be done by Yuji Iwasaki.

I think Gege Akutami learned a lot of creative (and health) lessons while serializing Jujutsu Kaisen. Personally, I'm excited for their next project. Especially as we fully enter the Pisces-Virgo eclipse cycle.

Still in Love had only one jockey for her entire career she wouldn't let any other jockey ride her and they had a strange relationship. They were very close and her jockey has been quoted saying that he would elope with her if he ever lost the jockey position. When she died her jockey dropped everything to rush to her side. He attributed his entire career to her. Even now he says he is still in love with Still in Love.
She was a triple Tiara winner but after she lost the Queen Elizabeth Il Cup she never recovered and started displaying mental stability issues. it's common speculation that it was because she spotted her jockey with his girlfriend, who at that day brought her to a race for the first time.
