America today is a country where regulators won't allow private companies to air interviews of the opposition on TV, but declare that taxpayer funded propaganda is fine.

Hey you, Europe, You know how we started a war without telling you, failed badly, and hurt all our economies? No, after we tariffed you, lectured you that Russia isn’t a threat, and demanded territory. Okay. So. Weaken yourself to rescue us or we’ll hurt our own economy more and you’ll be sorry.

I admit I still have an active X account (locked, wiped, and only really used for verifying certain tweets), and it is alarming to see people with reputations to maintain — elected officials, commentators, etc. — casually retweeting AI-generated content without realizing it’s AI.

When Gloria Steinem co-founded Ms. Magazine in 1972, the honorific “Ms.” was virtually unheard of. Unmarried women were referred to as “Miss [father’s last name]” and married women as “Mrs. [husband’s last name].” “Ms.” was an assertion of individual identity. Women who used it were widely mocked.

It’s a popular revolt against the tech oligarchs, not about data centers per se. Yes, streaming sites also use data centers. Yes, data centers don’t actually use up a lot of drinking water. Accuracy is good for its own sake. But still, right or wrong about data centers themselves isn’t the point.

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,

There are certainly debates between two positions that are worth having. But the very act of debating implies that there are two sides that have intellectual merit, that are worth seriously engaging. This is why you can’t win a debate with race science people. They win by engaging with them at all.

The reason you still get political fundraising emails is because they’re considered free speech and therefore exempt from the law governing commercial marketing emails and opt-out requests (CAN-SPAM). Also, historically, they are effective at raising money. But that doesn’t mean people enjoy them.
