The point isn't to produce essays, it's to teach students how to think for fuck's sake. The minute you automate that, it's over. You might as well close the course. Which they're also doing. This is an attack on learning, and everyone is just shrugging.

Populism is a fundamentally dishonest form of politics, that attracts fundamentally dishonest people. It is a tissue of lies that validates the darkest prejudices, and covers up the most blatant greed and corruption. It generates wealth for the few, and suffering for the many.

Israel has pushed ground forces into multiple areas of southern Lebanon They've displaced huge numbers of civilians... Yet it barely registers. Russia did the same in Ukraine and the world responded with sanctions, outrage and coordinated pressure The double standards are UNFORGIVABLE.

🧵And we're off, ladies and gentlemen! It's "they're banning the word EASTER" week. Regular as clockwork... So here comes a history lesson and media lesson all rolled into one thread! PS, I can't believe there's no easter egg emoji? This was the best I could do - 🗿🥚 🤣 I digress! 1/19

Britain has been a Christian nation for over 1,400 years.
Through wars, plagues, and countless kings, Easter has always been celebrated.
Yet now, Cadbury won't even use the word
'Easter' on their eggs.
When did celebrating British traditions become controversial?

It’s long been obvious that the current Labour Party are lousy at basic politics: picking arguments they didn’t need to have, pathologically prone to u Turns. Doesn’t this just prove it. Whatever you think of Burnham, this just makes Starmer look incredibly weak. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I keep trying to word a post to describe the presidential address to the press which is ongoing, and nothing quite covers it. It’s a ramble, of a babble of a frayed meander through the disordered thoughts of a strange, strange man. Who happens to be president.

I think the White House badly underestimates the strength of the pan-European folk memory of 1930s appeasement, and how deep it still cuts. I suppose this is what happens when you learn in school that WW2 started in 1941 in Hawaii.

A 🧵 on #AIDS in the 80s/90s: I was 15 when I first had sex with a man. I’d snuck off to London’s Heaven nightclub with the express intent of ridding myself of my ‘gay virginity’, a goal I achieved easily with a visiting American photographer. 1/13

The Guardian are reporting a significant increase in Jewish people voting for the Green Party. It's almost like many of us grew up learning a history of persecution & violence. We don't oppose the Genocide in spite of being Jewish but because of it. Never again for everyone.
The report said the increase in green party support suggested for a significant minority of Jews, domestic priorities and progressive values outweigh foreign policy concerns.

Should Gibb be sacked? yes, obviously. He's an abomination of basic journalistic standards. His GB News channel spreads conspiracy theory & disinformation. His Jewish Chronicle newspaper spreads invented stories. He is plainly trying to undermine the BBC so it's as bad as everything else he touches.
