Krastev called Orban the right-wing Castro, which I think is exactly right: the leader of a small relatively insignificant country, that nevertheless became the ideological lodestar for a global movement after being propped up by russia

Seven Theses Against Viewpoint Diversity
Demands for “viewpoint diversity,” a pillar of the Right’s strategy to remake higher education, collide with the pursuit of truth.

That’s why bishops and priests from Vance’s religion denounced it so forcefully. Because it’s no big deal. Almost makes you wonder if the lifelong atheist became a Catholic for political reasons before running in Ohio.

If you don’t know about this, you need to read up. It’s the single bloodiest massacre in the history of Reconstruction, and it was perpetrated to overthrow the results of an election. It was emblematic of the sabotage of Reconstruction. And SCOTUS nullified the prosecution of those responsible.

first in my bloodline to see someone get excommunicated by a community note
"Magataotao" on Twitter writes: "I am Catholic. This👇is not my Pope."

Attached is a video of the Pope saying that we should search for peace and reject war.

A community note under their tweet says: "You are not a Catholic if you do not accept the Pope, but rather a schismatic.

Canon 751: “Schism is the refusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff,” ie. the Pope.

a poem about going
Artemis II
Leslie J. Anderson

When Prometheus gave us fire
this is the kind of thing he hoped for,
not the blood on our hands but
the burn of the rockets bright as the light
in our eyes. Surely he saw
in us the willingness to be torn asunder
again and again, to send our bodies out
against the talons of the universe
to come home, wrap our arms around
each other and sing, rejoice!
There is still no end of the world!

Your “required anytime we’re talking about a prominent dude accused of doing back shit” reminder that. 1. The court of public opinion is not actually a court. 2. Even if it were, a statement by a witness who directly perceived the event is, in fact, evidence.

I've seen shocking, belligerently stupid comments about how someone like Swalwell should receive "due process," as if voters and endorsers must give him "notice and an opportunity to be heard" (that's what due process is, folks) before dropping him. That is, in a word, bullshit. But also... (1/?)

Btw, many "open secrets" in many industries--that doesn't mean you have info you can corroborate & publish. And if getting that info involves rushing, pushing or re-traumatizing people in a thoughtless or selfish way... nobody I know who does this work wants that. Nobody should want that.

Anyone who’s like, “well, the timing here is suspect,” maybe just sit the fuck down. Please understand that for many survivors of abuse and misconduct, their preferred timing would be absolutely fucking NEVER. To read their altruism as opportunism is just so utterly gross (and inevitably wrong)
