New Horizons is now *three days away* from shutting off its two heliophysics instruments, simply because NASA has not provided the $2M in funding it had promised to the mission last year or this year. There is no science basis for shutting these off. Our earlier coverage:

The JMC image is a stack of four exposures which drastically increased the dynamic range of the image. It wasn't trivial to pull off and the team had to come up with a new commanding strategy to capture the images with short enough interval. I'm glad they had so much patience with my photo ideas :)

Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

My neighborhood doesn't have any restaurants, but sometimes my neighbor Nikisha will finish up a catering gig with ingredients left over, set up a canopy on the sidewalk outside her home, and cook the rest for us at neighbor-friendly prices. Some of my best unplanned dinners come to me this way.
