Anyway, the Iran conflict is probably one of the less destructive ways Trump could detonate his political power. Albeit still hugely destructive. But at least we're getting a forced green energy transition and electrification (much stronger than any politically viable federal incentive).

The recovery, for instance, after the 73-75 recession did not save Gerald Ford in '78, because Nixon had been forced out - he was forced out because *elites* decided his crimes mattered and as a result *voters* concluded that they mattered.

The media outlets that are breaking all of these Irregular incidents into separate headlines and making it sound like all of these companies are making Terminator film-like strides are participating in the political project of AI, just as many are participating in Trumpian fascism.

When you hear a fantastical story about AI, you should ask yourself, "How does this serve the political project of AI?" Because, as others have pointed out, that's what AI really amounts to: a political project.

Technology enthusiasts severely overestimate the average person’s desire or willingness or capacity to build and use AI agents. I understand some work roles that could mandate or encourage it but that is no way a tech revolution. Agents are best for structured, clearly delineated tasks.

We have, at this convention, a vortex of sex and money, the two greatest motives for murder known to man. And yet, so far, all the evidence points to this being an assassination on the orders of a hypothetical...vengeful robot from the future! It's maddening!

If you wanted an example of how wide the gulf between what the broader public thinks of the president and what media/tech/business elites think, you can’t beat this: the same WSJ that reports this will also fill its front page with rapturous hymns from its columnists, all singing Trump’s praises.

One of the big problems right now is that a large majority of the public has basically sensible policy preferences and consumes/pays for zero political media, and a tiny minority of the public has basically insane preferences and consumes 98% of political media.

With so many copycats in MLB, let’s hope this is the next trend — a player who strives for base hits rather than selling out for home runs, which brings the inevitable avalanche of strikeouts. So much more fun to watch hitters get on base. www.wsj.com/sports/baseb...

You could make an argument that the mid-decade gerrymandering the GOP did actually hurt them rather than helped, a) by pissing voters off and b) making the WH and Rs feel unjustifiably emboldened to take dumb political risks, because they thought they had the midterms in the bag.

In primaries this year, Democratic turnout utterly dwarfed Republican turnout. But does it mean anything for November? It turns out the answer is very much yes. A new analysis from @donnermaps.bsky.social suggests that Dems are on track for a 13-point blowout in the House vote. Here's why.
