My perspective on reading is the same as on exercise. The best exercise is one you enjoy and want to do again. The best book to read is one that makes you want to keep reading. Unless you're designing a literature or PE syllabus, do things you enjoy! Slogging through "classics" isn't extra points.

Trump has never offered much in the way of material goods or transfers to his voters. He engages in displays of dominance, they derive a sense of status and prestige from those displays. It's a symbolic economy that rests on a cult of personality, in which his diehard fans are eternal marks.

Trump is promising to boost the U.S. economy by making it harder for Americans to trade with the rest of the world. He is also promising to destroy Iran's economy by making it harder for Iranians to trade with the rest of the world.

Trump could talk about the things he’s done to improve the lives of most Americans for the midterms, but he doesn’t have any of those things. So instead he is going to sell voters that Democrats are communists who are going to steal everything you have because they hate America.

Cytogeneticist Dr. Barbara McClintock won the 1983 #Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her study of corn chromosomes--revolutionizing the field of cytogenetics. She is the only woman to be awarded an unshared Nobel Prize in this category. She was born #OTD in 1902. #WomenInSTEM
A black-and-white photograph from 1947 of American cytogeneticist Dr. Barbara McClintock (1902–1992), who would later win the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering genetic transposition. She is seated in her laboratory at Cold Spring Harbor, deeply absorbed in her scientific work. Looking downward with a focused, serious expression, she wears delicate wire-rimmed glasses and a light-colored, buttoned lab coat over a collared shirt pinned with a round brooch. Her short, dark hair is parted to the side. Her right hand holds a fine tool over a petri dish, while her left hand rests carefully on the edge of another dish next to a glass specimen vial. On the table stands a large, black vintage compound microscope with multiple metal objectives. The composition centers on her meticulous hands and face, with a softly blurred background of lab shelves and window light, creating an intense, studious mood of historical scientific discovery.

A lawsuit challenging Idaho’s transgender bathroom ban in K-12 public schools could end soon, after a group at Boise High School suing over the law dropped the case.

The move came after a transgender student who was part of Boise High School’s Sexuality and Gender Alliance died by suicide, and another stopped attending the school, the group’s lawyers wrote in a legal agreement reached Wednesday requesting the case be dismissed.
