a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

I believe fraternity hazing and military hazing and sports team hazing where men abuse each other is acclimating them into a broader culture of abuse where they will then believe it is their right to abuse other more vulnerable people. It’s so insidious. And that’s also why I think men defend it

This bit from Blue Heron Farm's letter is really important. Your participation in an election is not just about who you vote for, it's who you *support*, which can mean donations, campaign volunteering, or just talking them up with your friends. A candidate who dampens enthusiasm risks all that.
You may still get my vote in November, but you will not get my labor in the very hard ground game that needs to be fought. I simply can't fight for a candidate that won't fight for all of us.

Stole this from the comments because this shit shouldn't be behind a paywall.
Crucially, the GLOVE has limitations, chief among them that for the device to work effectively and deliver its restraining pain shock, it must come into contact with the subject's bare skin. According to Compliant Technologies, the gloves won't work through dry clothing or thick hair. The gloves will work, however, if the subject is wearing thin, wet clothing, such as soaked T-shirts or blouses. The GLOVE also does not like being dunked in water and will likely be rendered inoperable if this happens.

My syllabus (for college writing courses) says this & offers a framework for horizontal organizing & collective bargaining to reduce workload. Fellow educators, please feel free to C&P from the alt text <3

(From the "How to Pass This Class" section)

Avoid LLM or “AI” writing tools like ChatGPT. Don’t use them at any stage of your writing for this class. If you’re in this class because you want to get better at writing—whatever “better” means to you—those tools won’t help you learn that. If you’re taking this course to fulfill a requirement for your concentration, you might as well learn what else the course can offer you, and benefit from the feedback your classmates and I are giving—which a LLM cannot do. One set of our readings deals with some of the ethical, aesthetic and labor questions raised by LLMs, and we can use that reading to talk about polemic and position writing as well as to raise counterpoints. If you are tempted to use these tools because you have too much else to do, there is a mechanism for reducing the workload for this course through horizontal organizing and collective bargaining, and it’s outlined below.

(From the "Respect, Power and Access" section)

If you’re having a difficulty with another student, or a difficulty with me that you want to speak to me about privately, please do. But if you’re having a difficulty with the class—with the way the class is structured, or with something that affects many/all students—I encourage you to talk with each other first, and present a shared case or demand to me. Horizontal organizing and collective bargaining are useful skills to develop, both for college and beyond. As noted above, this includes situations where you are tempted to use LLMs to manage workload: I’d rather that we alter the workload together, with intention, to increase the chances of everyone learning something.

July was ICE’s busiest month yet in the Puget Sound region. It’s a stealthy surge, without the helicopters or smoke grenades of Chicago and MN. But the surge is real, with real people taken every day. Each red pin is someone’s family member, neighbor, coworker, loved one.
Screenshot from iceout.org (People Over Papers) showing community ICE reports in the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett region from 7/1-2026-7/31/2026.
