you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

If you live where you can walk to your grocery store and other errands, I emphatically recommend getting a collapsible wagon. I’d been Team Grannycart since my living in SF 30 years ago, but the wagons have gotten so good! Technically, I could bike to the store, but biking in Flatbush freaks me

As school and winter asks pile up, Anna Holmes’ new book felt VERY useful. Her points about giving a no or a pause when I don’t actually know how I feel about a demand on my time were wildly helpful. It’s a couple hour listen, read by Anna. 💙📚💡 libro.fm/audiobooks/9...

The government moving or hiding jailed people to avoid review by courts isn't some loophole in our habeas corpus rights. This government behavior has been considered a violation of the people's habeas corpus rights since at least the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_...
Jailors were forbidden to move prisoners from one prison to another or out of the country to evade the writ. In case of disobedience jailers would be punished with severe fines which had to be paid to the prisoner.[5][6]

If you know anyone who works for DHS or for a law enforcement, probation, etc. agency that cooperates with ICE, read this to them and ask them questions. If you work for a prosecutor/sheriff/police/governor/mayor that says it does not cooperate with ICE, but also does not investigate it, same.

I’ve been trying to put this in context of my work in construction. NYC building codes are very clear: if I renovate a building & remove the fire alarm system & sprinklers to put up new wallpaper, but don’t put a new fire safety system in place, I go to jail if people die in a fire. Fires don’t

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

#ResistanceRoots Matthew Henson was born on this day in 1866 in Charles County, Md. He was an African American Arctic explorer who co-discovered the geographic North Pole alongside Robert Peary. During his life, Henson was given little credit for the critical role he played in their expeditions. /1
Matthew Henson, ca. 1910. Without Henson, Robert Peary’s polar expeditions likely wouldn’t have succeeded. While Peary provided the funding and ambition, Henson provided the practical skills and resourcefulness that kept the men alive. However, Henson was given little credit for his work until late in life. Following his death in 1955, his story faded again from mainstream history textbooks, until a Harvard neurobiologist named Dr. S. Allen Counter launched a crusade to “desegregate history.” Dr. Counter successfully petitioned Reagan to correct the final injustice. On April 6, 1988, Henson and his wife were exhumed from their modest Bronx graves and reburied with full military honors next to Peary in Arlington National Cemetery.
