Autism is taking normal enthusiasm and dousing it with gasoline until you're god-tier excited and then wondering why no one else is vibrating with joy like you are.

As his parted lips formed a half-smile, it struck me that what I found so deeply moving about the slumbering little prince was his loyalty to a flower; it was the image of a rose that burned in him like the flame of a lamp, even when he was asleep..."

His favourite book was The Little Prince; he identified with the alien protagonist
The book The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery with an illustration of a boy flying through the stars holding onto string attached to a flock of birds. Next to the book is a black and white Dennis Stock portrait of Dean reading a book.

It’s 71 years since 24 year old James Dean died in a car accident. With only three major film roles (and only one released before he died) he soon became an international star, icon, and myth.

James Byron Dean 8 Feb 1931 – 30 Sept 1955
A photo of James Dean during the filming of East of Eden, mid air as he jumps from a train roof, wearing light coloured trousers, shirt and sweatshirt. Dean has scrawled across the photo:
“Try and catch me. You think I have to come down from up there don’t you. I hate all earthlings. Love, Jimmy.”

We can spend our lives debating the justifications (I more or less have); but we are wasting our time. What we need is a massive clampdown on the influence of money over politics, including lobbying transparency, campaign finance reform, an end to the revolving door between politics and lobbying.

it's literally a thing that children (both juveniles and adults) will DEFEND their parents, will seek to protect them even from their own negative feelings. for an adult child to totally cut off a parent? do you know how many hopes of "maybe this time will be different" must have been dashed?

being so fr when I say that transmisogyny has put feminism back like 50 years

what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past 'dresses are for women and pants are for men. i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we've made

The Tear: an oil painting created c.midC20th, in the art therapy studio at Netherne hospital, Surrey, by an individual who was compelled to live there, whose identity is currently unknown to us
A painting in blues and greens and purples of a female face with one huge blue cyclopean eye, crying tears made of smaller blue eyes, the figure seems to fix the viewer in her gaze and it is reminiscent of Rembrandt's girl with a pearl earring

Day 15 #SciArtSeptember: honeycomb. This detail of my #SciArt #embroidery, deep dilation (2025) features a honeycomb-like net to represent the stent in my iliac vein.
A pelvis, lumbar vertebrae, and part of the iliac vein are embroidered on white linen. Most of the iliac vein is outlined in grey-green stem stitch and the photo is focused on this area. A section on the left branch is a stent outlined in darker grey-green split stitch with some horizontal and crossing threads stretched across it. Intricate turbulence is stitched in single strand dark aquamarine backstitch within the iliac vein. The bones are stitched in thick backstitch in a white just slightly bluer than the white linen. Some text reading, “a single stem deep” is stitched to the right of the stent.

Even in Canada my friends and I were afraid to take transit. Brown people were getting verbally attacked, told to back to our countries. Temples and Mosques were being vandalized and set on fire. I am still always set aside for the extra search/bomb rub down at the airport.

...in this article, I discuss this recurring phenomenon (of ppl who have been "touched" by transness in some way, who then hyper-vigilantly strive to "purge" it) and why I think it happens: juliaserano.medium.com/anti-trans-g...
screenshot from linked to essay that reads:
Our lay conceptualization of prejudice — e.g., viewing other people as “inferior” to us, or disliking or detesting them — doesn’t seem to adequately accommodate this level of irrationality and obsession. But the stigma-contamination mindset does. If people (consciously or unconsciously) view trans people as an insidious “corrupting” force that’s out to “contaminate” and permanently “spoil” them and their loved ones, then it at least makes some sense as to why they might feel the need to patrol our every move, or buy into conspiracy theories that depict us as some kind of “all-powerful cabal.”
Notably, some anti-trans campaigners’ lives seem to have been “touched” by transness in one way or other. Perhaps their child, or partner, or a close relative came out as trans? Or perhaps they unexpectedly found themselves attracted to a trans person, or maybe their partner left them for someone who is trans? It doesn’t even need to be sexual: Maybe they simply find us bizarre or fascinating, and can’t stop thinking about us (like an itch they can’t help but scratch)?
If you view anti-trans stigma as a “contagion” — or worse, fear that you may have already been “contaminated” or “infected” by said “contagion”— well, that would certainly explain much of the hyper-vigilance and moral panic expressed by many die-hard anti-trans campaigners.
The stigma-contamination mindset also helps to explain what we in the trans community call the “TERF-to-fascist pipeline.”
