There are still surface parking lots in central Los Angeles. We don't need new developments out in the WUI outside Fontana.

It's not something I feel like doing myself, but it would be really cool to break down total water rights in California by partisanship of the owners. It might really shift perspectives to learn that we're turning our state into a desert when 70% of acre-feet are owned by Republicans.

I object pretty strongly to this framing tbh the ukraine war is probably a one-off--we don't know for sure but we do know that nato countries' forces look much different than ukraine's prewar--and planning as though it's the war of the future ain't great

In this case, it's less ADA and more our building codes. Those nice compact elevators are illegal in the US because the bunch of retired firefighters who write our building codes insist that if you can't fit a full ambulance stretcher in an elevator, you might as well not have one at all.

It seems that Trump has irrevocably broken the global fossil fuel energy chain such that moving people and freight using electric power will be a national priority over the next decade. It would've been great to build this infrastructure during the ZIRP, but the 2nd best time is right now.

Also deliverism, as the GOP has grasped far better than the Democrats, does not need to be an economic benefit. Instead, it can be watching the state beat up on people you hate. Plenty of people within and adjacent to this administration deserve a turn in the barrel.

Was walking past this building and through the window saw this backrooms-ass room, so I accidentally took the coolest picture ever due to the window's reflection
A backrooms-ass room with a twilight sky and trees seemingly imposed over it in a dream-like fashion (it's the reflection of the window)

the issue with the audit is traceability everyone knows where all the money is going (if we didn't the appropriators would raise holy hell), the problem is being able to account for every dollar throughout the entire life cycle of that dollar, through depreciation and ultimate disposal

my take is that we just lie about the tax increase on the middle class we're also gonna have to do. "oh that's just a basis change, it's a technical adjustment" = fancy way of saying your taxes went up. it'll be like $500/yr for most households

The root cause these guys are ignoring is a lack of coherent strategy. Good equipment is downstream of good requirements which is downstream of clear goals which is downstream of political consensus. But then they couldn’t pitch their shittech defense startup and would have to work on messy politics

I'll again make what appears to be a lonely position in re: the IR/foreign policy of 🇺🇸-🇨🇳 relations, which is that folks are applying 2 totally different theoretical models to 🇺🇸 vs 🇨🇳. If all the awful domestic political stuff matters for 🇺🇸, then you can't ignore it in 🇨🇳. Either it all matters or not.

I don't know where this bizarre idea that China has universal health care comes from, but it very much does not by any normal standard. It has a highly tiered system that brutally discriminates against rural patients and imposes often crippling financial costs.
