anyone other ND people get a thing where you get really into a particular food or beverage and eat it a whole bunch for a few months and then move on? Like I was really into iced tea this summer.

Ok which one of you put diataxis.fr in my tabs because it's incredible 🤩 (Maybe it was from Tumblr?)

If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

What this looked like in practice: People came to the class excited or at least mildly interested in learning what an ai agent could do for them. The trainers came to help people train an agent for their known specific cases. Everyone quickly realized that there wasn’t much middle ground.

Yeah, coming from aviation I solve so many issues with simple things like checklists. I always say "tools don't solve people problems, they just accelerate them" and most things are people problems. Even high level assumptions like "each person performs at the same level every day" can get them.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

my maximalist trans rights take is that genders should be treated like religions - all genders, not just trans people's. the state doesn't put it on your ID or have any say in who converts to another religion, but they do have to accommodate religious requirements like clothing or midday prayer.

I'm reminded of stories I've heard from folks who met Bill Clinton in person during his political career; they described talking to him as feeling like you're the only person in the world to him. Turns out that feeling is intoxicating and many people are very susceptible to influence from it!

uhh... speaking of which these lyrics from Google???
questionably accurate lyrics of the Tom Lehrer song "Lobachevsky" on the internet:

Who made me the genius I am today?
The mathematician that others haily quote?
Who's the professor that made me that way?
The greatest that ever got chalk on his coat?
One man deserves the credit
One man deserves the blame
cnd Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky
Is his name, ha!
Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky
One day I'll never forget the day
I first meet the great Lobachevsky
In one word he told me
Secret of success in mathematics
Flagellarize, flagellarize
Let no one else's work evade your eyes
Remember why the good Lord made your eyes
So don't shade your eyes, plagiarize
Let plagiarize, plagiarize
Only be sure always to call it please
Researching ever since I meet this man
My life is not the same
Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky
Is his name, ha!
Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky
I'll never forget the day
I am given first original paper to write L.T.
It's on that analytic and algebraic
Topology of locally Euclidean
Memorization of infinitely different
Schiphol, Riemann, and Manifold Poissonnois

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.
