While this is true, it's not what anyone is talking about. Literally no one is pointing at retirement savings and saying "That's the problem! The plumber saved their money!" We're pointing at people who live off extraction rather than labor.

It's becoming increasingly plausible to argue that the 1970s was the most consequential decade in human history. The backlash to relatively weak civil and economic rights in the US in the 1960s is resulting in the destruction of a planet.

One of the most important changes if we ever pull out of this nose dive is to remove the Limited Liability like ability for government actors to commit illegal acts without personal repercussions. "I didn't do it, the agency did" "I didn't do it, the AI did" All these legal fictions need to go.

What this looked like in practice: People came to the class excited or at least mildly interested in learning what an ai agent could do for them. The trainers came to help people train an agent for their known specific cases. Everyone quickly realized that there wasn’t much middle ground.

This is one of the biggest points. This concept is foreign even to most in the corporate world. They *think* they've done it, but as soon as you go to build them software to do "the task" you realize 80% of your work is helping them figure out how the task is *actually* accomplished.

Granted I'm still in the middle of the book so there is a potential "hammer/nail" issue, but I think @annakornbluh.bsky.social 's book Immediacy really speaks to the larger context of this symptom being produced by the current form of our socioeconomic production system.

Gotta say I find this just as disingenuous or delusional as the rest of'm. If this is true, it's an incredibly cowardly response. "I couldn't even just walk away, I had to make sure my absence would have zero negative impact on their plan to destroy humanity... out of respect" 🙄

Holy hell! For fun I was looking into what it'd be like to move into a career in therapy/counseling. I could start in a Masters program, but even then we're talking 6 to 8 years, between degree and required work hours, before being able to take the licensing exam.

Seems Democrats, even some DSA members, are just as eager to slap the "socialism" label on plainly capitalist actions as Republicans are. I'd love 30 minutes with him to explain how Adam Smith literally thought the concept of Limited Liability would destroy the world.

Woke 2.0 must make this policy national and increase the quality of these meals. Something is far better than nothing, but those photos look nothing like the school lunches here, where we have universal meals. Universalist policies must be truly universal. Everyone should want to eat these meals.

This is why the idea of some liberals to "focus on Republicans" is bullshit. Some think "focus on the ones doing the harm, not those with no power" is better, but Democrats are doing significant harm. I think we should *always* be focused on those without power. Like trans people.

eh, winning the civil war was actually a huge deal and the re-installation of real centralized government authority after decades of war was so huge even if his domestic policy largely sucked, it still lead to a massive increase in life expectancy over the course of his rule

Haha, yes, I totally believe that this slow down is about your fear of the power of your creation 🙄 You're totally *not* using "Anti AI Communism" to enable regulatory capture. Sure, whatever you say.
- Open-weight models are inherently decelerationist.
- One probable outcome of an open-weight-model-dominant world is full AI communism, which is precisely what China proposes: rather than a market product, Al is a "public good" which will ultimately be provided by the state as a kind of "digital public infrastructure." This future strikes me as a dystopian hellscape.
- The Trump Administration will at some point realize that their best strategy here would be to create large amounts of regulatory risk around the use of open-weight Chinese models.

One of the easiest ways to spot someone that's full of shit is when they put out some precise number, like a percentage, that they couldn't possibly have calculated in any way. If one is ok communicating in hand waving nonsense, their analysis is likely the same level of rigor.

Why anyone would take these guys at their word is beyond me. More likely that they see a) the datacenter pushback as existential to the bubble, b) the non-profitably as existential to investment, and c) the reporting of their incompetence as existential to their PR hype machine.
