A mayoral candidate in Ottawa has come out against Alto High-Speed Rail. I don’t understand point #2: “If this doesn’t go downtown to downtown, adding 30 mins at each end defeats the whole purpose.” I thought we didn’t know the route yet? Opposing it based on an “if”?

I think it was really brave of the mayor to share this but oh boy, have the online comments been a sickening reminder of how much people hate women. Somehow, the person getting a pat on the back on social media is Loomis while the mayor takes more abuse for vulnerably sharing her experience.

On this day in 1989, an armed gunman murdered 14 women at École Polytechnique de Montréal. Another ten women and four men were injured. The anniversary of the massacre is commemorated annually on Dec. 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
A black granite memorial plaque features a circular arrangement of names in white text, bordered by silver rivets. At the top center is an emblem of a bee with gears. The text reads "in memoriam" followed by two columns of names: Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte, Barbara Klucznik Widajewicz. At the bottom: "6 DÉCEMBRE 1989".

A tweet from Robert Benzie that reads: Premier Doug Ford defends his friend Wayne Gretzky. "I talked to Wayne the other day and he was so choked up talking to me. He is a patriot. He loves Canada. He never gave up his Canadian passport. Just give him a break."

“oh, you think conservative men are terrified of big cities? common mistake. we are actually all just self-taught jason bournes.”
tweet from @wayne: Thave a theory that men are more sensitive to this than women, which might explain why some conservative men appear to liberals to be more, "afraid" of big cities. I think what's happening is that these are men who are especially attuned to implicit threats of violence and who are correctly picking it up everywhere they go in urban areas.

When my wife and I are out in a city I will often clock a guy doing this and then it will distract me for as long as he is present in my environment and my wife can sometimes get kind of annoyed because I seem distracted and she's not sure why.reply from @belogical (lol): Be Logical

It goes further than this. In restaurants, I can't sit with my back to the door, and I can't sit in the middle of the restaurant, it makes me anxious as hell. I'm devising escape strategies (does the table flip, can we get to the kitchen). I have never been in a gun fight, l've just always been this way.
Also when I'm away from home on business, I'm thinking about the best way to get back home to my wife and child should society collapse. I think these are natural masculine instincts.
