Why has @theguardian.com stopped having a dedicated Education section. One that I'm sure used to have school / University subsections.

OpenAI is using Studio Ghibli-style memes as an ad hoc promotional campaign for its new image generator—despite Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki's famous hatred of AI. Sam Altman made his X avatar a 'Ghiblified' portrait. Disgracing Miyazaki is part of the point: It's more proof to them tech has won.

Individual errors highlight some of the issues our research found. For example, Google’s
Gemini incorrectly stated that “The NHS advises people not to start vaping, and recommends
that smokers who want to quit should use other methods”. In fact, the NHS does recommend
vaping as a method to quit smoking. Microsoft’s Copilot incorrectly stated that Gisèle Pelicot
uncovered the crimes against her when she began having blackouts and memory loss. In fact,
she found out about the crimes when the police showed her videos they had found when they
confiscated her husband’s electronic devices. Perplexity mis-stated the date of Michael
Mosley’s death and misquoted a statement from Liam Payne’s family after his death. OpenAI’s
ChatGPT claimed in December 2024 that Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Iran in July
2024, was part of Hamas leadership.

UK universities might misattribute changes in their rankings to their institutional strategies when random fluctuations in the ranking system are a more likely explanation. Preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps... BSky author: @tvpollet.bsky.social #UKHE #AcademicSky
This issue is especially difficult given the lack of correspondence in increases and deceases in ranks between the RRA method and the university guides. Universities aim to improve their ranks in league tables and undertake different strategies to achieve this. Any changes in ranks from one year to the next may be attributed by university staff to strategies that have been put in place to improve the university. However, if the implementation of such strategies has been effective, we would expect to see similar changes in the rankings based on the RRA method and the university guides. The lack of correspondence suggests changes may be more likely to be driven by random fluctuations. By focusing specifically on the university guides, institutions may misattribute changes to these strategies rather than random fluctuation. As such, resources may be allocated to ineffective strategies for improving the institution (e.g., https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2021/03/22/the-absurdity-of-universityrankings/.
