Alright now that I’m home I guess it’s time to officially announce some really good news: I have received an NIH R35 MIRA!! This award will fund five years of research in my group using Aiptasia to study context dependency and GxGxE interactions in animal-microbe symbioses!
Screenshot of NIH status page, stating the project titled: “Mechanisms of Intergenomic Epistasis and Environmental Context in Animal-Microbe Symbioses” has been awarded with PI Lauren Fuess

A fully updated preprint is now live on @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social :) “Look and see” was a rather important line of thinking regarding freshwater sponge-microbe interactions, centering on the importance of spatial dynamics when evaluating animal microbiomes 🧽🦠🧪 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Graphical abstract depicting a proposed model of microbial colonization of the skeletal matrix of the freshwater sponge, E. muelleri, during periods of dormancy. This graphic highlights that an epithelium physically separates the host mesohyl from the microbial communities residing within this host-derived external matrix.
