I'm grateful to @cambridgemass.bsky.social for having vaccine clinics that include the kids' covid vaccine; CVS apparently doesn't and my son's doctor's office was only offering times in the middle of the school day. Looking forward to being able to get his shots after school next week.

Actually, I’d recommend this transcript generally. It has some funny moments in it.

MR. BARDWELL: We have had a consulting expert, Your
Honor.

THE COURT:
Because the last time you were before me,
you were like there is all this stuff in the dirt and you're
going to have our expert reports, and I said, "I love expert
reports.
There is nothing more that I love litigating than
deposing an expert."
We talk about that often, right?
So I was like "can't
wait to get to the expert reports, " and then when I was
prepping, I didn't see any expert reports. And then I asked
for the studies from the government, and I got their studies.
MR. BARDWELL: That is definitely coming.
We haven't
done it yet. But what we do know --
THE COURT: Are we going to call it the
Godot report?
MR. BARDWELL: I beg your pardon?
THE COURT: Are we going to call it the Godot report?
MR. BARDWELL: I'm not sure I got the joke, but some
people did.
THE COURT: Mr. Robertson, were you an English major?
MR. ROBERTSON: No, archeology.
THE COURT:
Oh.
Waiting for Godot is a famous play.
Guess what happens at the end of Waiting for Godot?
MR. BARDWELL:
Does the judge rule in the plaintiffs'
favor?

My favorite (derogatory) traffic violence trope is how following a crash there's always some neighbor or witness talking about the fact that people regularly speed where a person was hit. I will always call this out because it reinforces that these are not accidents. www.wcvb.com/article/driv...
"There's cars that go way too fast down this street. I swear they go 40 to 50 miles per hour sometimes. It's like one long straightaway. There's nothing to deter cars from slowing down at all," Bartko said. "Students live around here. I live with a bunch of students—they've got to cross this road every day just to get to school."

I also feel like it encourages one of my least favorite cultural responses to cyclists being killed: 1000 comments asking "was he wearing a helmet???" even in situations where a helmet would have done nothing in the face of being mowed down by a Childcrusher 3000.

Anyway, preaching to the choir here: Vote Ed Markey for many reasons, but a big one for me is that I don't trust Seth Moulton. The man simply senses which way the wind is blowing and changes his campaign rhetoric accordingly. Moulton doesn't actually believe in anything besides the pursuit of power.

This fits with how hard it's been to poll Trump elections, since as far as I can tell he exists as some form of walking vibes Rorschach test.

Loopie @elfofdoriath.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I have a hypothesis brewing in my head, that the more vibes-based an election is the harder it's gonna be to poll because vibes are inherently unstable. Primary elections, being between people under the same party umbrella with a lot of similar policy opinions, are going to magnify vibes effects.

It's also going to be very context dependent imo. The average credit card debt among people in the US holding balances is something like $8k and about 25% of people owe money on a car; if someone wants to be able to guarantee clearing that kind of debt I'm not gonna say they're being that irrational

Frequently "take a couple of years off to look after the children" makes it difficult to impossible to return to that career you like, and that's going to be even more true of the types of high-paying jobs we're talking about here. Cutting back/time off is not realistically an option.

Statement from @bikeboston.bsky.social, @streetsboston.bsky.social, and @walkmass.bsky.social about Louisa Gag, who was hit and killed by a driver today. Yet another life taken because our society and leaders refuse to address the destruction wrought by cars.
We are devastated by the loss of Boston resident and transportation planner, Louisa Gag. On Thursday morning, a driver struck and killed Louisa on her bicycle commute to city hall along Tremont Street near Roxbury Crossing.
Louisa Gag is not just a number on a spreadsheet; she was a champion for safer streets, a vibrant part of the planning and advocacy community, and a person dedicated to fixing the very system that failed her.
MASSACHUSETTS VISION ZERO COALITION
Prior to joining the city of Boston's Transportation Department, Louisa graduated with a masters from the Tufts Urban and Environmental Planning and Policy program and worked at Livable Streets Alliance. Our hearts are with Louisa, her family, and all her colleagues and friends at BTD, UEP, and in the advocacy community.
Fatalities are a heartbreaking reminder of the safety gaps in our infrastructure. Inaction and needless delays have consequences. Changes must be made to dangerous streets before we lose a community member, not after.
We need safer streets now.
