Collage of monarch butterflies on the zinnias from my summer garden. The zinnias are in various shades of orange and pink and are either singles or fully double. The monarchs were captured in several angles, mostly side views while gathering pollen and nectar on the centre part of the zinnias.

A benefit of growing roses is that there are usually some to pick and bring into the house. Even if it is raining outside. The scent is fabulous. #roseWednesday #gardening #roses

💙 I have no idea what kind of flowers these are. I just know they're so gorgeous, especially the colors, that they deserve to be good morning flowers. They're not just flowers - they are glowers. So, good morning, dear Blueskyers. May you find such happiness today that you glow.

Today’s poem is called ‘Busman’s Holiday’.
Busman’s Holiday

I had always wanted to go
on a busman’s holiday
so I saved up for ten years

and then five holidays
came along at once.

Today’s poem is called ‘Love is a Skin’.
Love is a Skin

love is a skin
that protects you,
a warmth that spreads
from the tips of your fingers
to your heart

sorry – not love –
glove, i meant glove

It's now extremely hard for Irish people to conceive what a wild tree even looks like, with mostly only domesticated, tamed versions remaining. This rainforest holly gives an idea. Rewilding is how we allow not only wild trees back, but the entire ecosystems of which they're meant to be a part.

Last day of August: “… The turn has come; Night-hidden messengers have touched the scene; And, in the morning, when we greet, we say 'My love, my dear, the summer days have been.'” — from ‘The Turn of Summer’ by Augustus Radcliffe Grote (1841-1903).
Collage of colourful late-summer flowers in a garden: a golden-yellow daisy-like bloom, orange Heleniums with rounded brown centres, pink-purple coneflowers, rich violet-purple roses, and a loose planting of pink, cream, yellow and orange everlasting flowers. Lush green foliage and softly blurred flowers fill the backgrounds, capturing the garden at the end of August.

Here is ‘The Turn of Summer’ in full, by Augustus Radcliffe Grote (1841–1903), capturing that subtle moment when summer is still all around us, yet the first signs of autumn have begun to appear.
A vintage printed copy of the poem ‘The Turn of Summer’ by Augustus Radcliffe Grote. The poem describes the subtle transition from summer towards autumn: fading flowers, fruit beginning to form, spider webs among the grass, birds preparing to fly south, and the almost imperceptible change of the season. It ends: “My love, my dear, the summer days have been.”

We talk a lot about progress and innovation, but at what point does it cost too much? Data centers consume enormous amounts of water and energy. They clear land. They fragment ecosystems. Meanwhile, bees are disappearing, aquifers are dropping, and forests keep shrinking. 🐝

I really do not understand why the small green box causes the neighbours and the planning officials such visual injury, and yet they somehow cannot see the large grey, red and black boxes on wheels in the foreground. I know which I’d be most horrified by if visiting from the 1880s.
