Book launch for #ThePathlessLand next week, if anyone's in the Sligo area and wants to drink a glass of cheap wine and stare distractedly out the window while someone says nice things about my book and then I waffle on for a bit...

For whom is the funhouse fun? Definitely not for the undergrads in seminar 2 of the postmodernism module, anyway - but they'll learn to love it!

Important lesson: at this time of the academic year, NEVER open Teams and Outlook "just to see where we're at" while the kettle is boiling, because two hours later that kettle will have gone very cold. #omnishambles

I took @hawhitek.bsky.social for a ramble on the banks of the Shannon to chat about the new book, #ThePathlessLand, the lack of countryside access here and Ireland's network of lost historical footpaths, hidden away behind the "no trespassing" signs. Great to see his write-up in the Independent.

Marking up missing footpaths, recorded on old maps, in one small corner of East Galway. These paths are lost to the public now; but where field boundaries are unchanged the stiles are usually still there. Imagine the 1000s of kms of lost paths beyond the "no trespassing" signs, all across Ireland!
