Just want to remind folks that this keeps happening. Burials of assumed-important ancients discovered to be women via genetic testing, after decades of them simply being assumed to be male. The patriarchy is incompatible with reality.

Whereas there's definitely a "gender critical" ideology, which is that trans people shouldn't exist. And apparently, now, that young women with disabilities shouldn't exist either. 🤨 #TransRightsAreHumanRights

But most of all, Robin Ince quit due to moral and ethical objections way bigger than him or this show. By taking this job, Adam Rutherford announces he's happy to be quiet on the issues Ince's career was endangered for being loud about. Take that into account for all of his output from now on.

Blame the business for allowing the behaviour. Businesses see that their cis customers are getting bothered over a badge and may clarify trans-inclusive policies, so they can kick out the bathroom botherers instead of nice cis allies.

You follow up with a letter to the business saying you're fucking furious because some nosy dipshit just tried to play fucking genital police with you in the loos. You know lots of trans people (don't name any, if you do) and you wear the pin in support and you're disgusted at them for allowing this

In practice: the goal is to make it DIFFICULT to identify trans people to target with bathroom bans, and to create many FALSE POSITIVES for businesses. Basically, you might get accused of being trans and kicked out, because of the badge. You say: I wear the badge because trans rights matter.

THE CHAFF PROJECT Hi! Are you cis in the UK and you'd like to support trans rights? Great! How: buy a trans flag pin and wear it in public. Why: chaff is an overwhelming amount of false positives so that when a missile gets close to the plane, it hits the chaff and not the plane.
A very simple diagram showing radar, a chaff cloud, a confused missile and an airplane. The confused missile is aiking for the chaff cloud and not the airplane.

The thing about this is trans people have de facto been using spaces of our transitioned gender since the 1950s, and de jure never been banned from doing so. We aren’t banned in any other liberal democracy in the world. So those who advocate it SHOULD have to outline why 2026 UK must be different

My son has been significantly happier & so full of joy since he started taking testosterone. Unfortunately the only way he can obtain it is by me buying it from doctors in Europe, at a cost of about £1500 a year (including blood tests etc for monitoring). So the credit card company's happy too. 😒

If someone asks you “What is your sex?” In a toilet, they are the weirdo. If they ask you “What sex were you assigned at birth?” They want to know what your genitals looked like when you were a baby. I would look at anyone doing this in the same I would look at Rod Liddle talking about porn.

Absolutely this. Being a physically disabled carer for a partner who has a mental illness is unbelievably stressful. On days when I'm physically unable to move (though these are thankfully rare atm), most of the burden of caring falls to the kids. Which isn't fair on them.

For this #MosaicMonday, the ever-gorgeous Bignor Venus. Her semicircular diadem resembles the shape of a pelta. Some see this as deliberate but is it just the shape - albeit immediately recognisable - formed by the two curls of hair in front? Thoughts welcome! 1/3 #AncientBlueSky 🏺
Extract from a hand-coloured engraving of a mosaic showing the bust of a naked female figure in a circular frame. She is wearing a pendant (which has led some to argue that the pendant is the neck of a diaphanous robe). Her hair is arranged in neat coils, perhaps gathered in a pony tail because no hair is visible on either side of the neck, with the ends draped on her shoulders. On her head is a semicircular diadem held in place by a tiara decorated with small white crosses.

A little Roman octopus to wish you a happy week! 🐙❤️ From a Roman villa mosaic at Villaquejida, León, Spain. Limestone, AD 100-200. Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Madrid 📷 by me #MosaicMonday #Archaeology
My photo shows a mosaic fragment from the floor of a Roman villa in Spain, dated AD 100-200s. It depicts a stylised octopus using red, yellow, white, and black limestone tesserae, against an off-white background. The front-facing octopus appears almost cartoon-like, with a large red and white head and body outlined in black. Its yellow circular eyes are outlined in black with a central black dot which stare out at the viewer. Below the head and body are eight writhing arms.

This octopus and other fragmentary animal mosaics were discovered in the 19th century at the Hermitage of Santa Colomba, Villaquejida, León, which had been built on the site of a Roman villa.

Sipping my coffee ☕️ and thinking about these marvellous Minoan cups! They look so modern it’s incredible to think they were made by Bronze Age potters some 3,800 years ago! Heraklion Archaeological Museum, Crete. 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo collage shows five cylindrical Minoan cups each with a single handle and a slightly flaring rim. Each cup is decorated with a different geometric polychrome motif as follows:

Top left: on a black background, a central band delineated by an upper and lower white line contains evenly-spaced dark-orange circles. Each orange circle is outlined by a white line. Above and below the central band are swirling white vine-like lines.

Top right: on a black background, a large white spiral on the front of the cup and beside it a dark-orange oval with stylised white petals at each end which looks like a wrapped sweet!

Middle left: a central band of white and dark orange diagonal lines runs around the cup. Above and below the central band are alternating black and white diagonal shapes, the black ones look like shark fins

Bottom left: a central reddish-orange band delineated with a white line. Above the central band are swirling, spiralling white lines against a black background, and below the central band are alternating white and black diagonal lines.

Bottom right: A central band delineated with white lines contains white 's'-shaped diagonal white stripes. Above the central band a row of red dots outlined with white circles. Below the central band a single white line on the black background.

This type of Minoan pottery is known as Kamares Ware, named after the Kamares Cave on Mount Ida on the Greek island of Crete where this kind of pottery was first discovered. Kamares Ware vessels were luxury items produced by palace workshops at Phaistos and Knossos on Crete. These five cups were excavated at Phaistos and are dated 1800-1700 BC.
