Much quieter but no less insidious, I recently ran into Google (and/or Meta?) pro-AI-wash the preview for an event at a local library to guide patrons through turning off AI features. Not the highlighted AI overview text, look at the bottom, then compare with the click through.

Google search results screen, the relevant bit being a link to a "Generative AI workshop at South Berwick Public Library.

The page review text reads, "This will help librarians to understand how to harness Generative AI for bettering the education of library users and improving the lives and..."

However...

The actual Facebook post with a graphic naming the event "Why Avoid AI?." Graphic also has computer chip type icons labled AI, covered with a red circle and diagonal slash, indicating NO AI. Graphic is cut off on the bottom but appears to repeat the post text.

The post text reads: "Generative AI is everywhere. This workshop will cover the basics of how this technology works, why it is unreliable as a source of information, and the privacy, social, and environmental concerns associated with AI. Resources will be provided in how to disable AI on your devices or seek out alternatives. If you are curious about large language models and artificial intelligence, or you are suspicious of how this technology is being pushed out, join our library director, Melissa, to learn more.
