Remembering Gwyneth Bebb today. She passed Oxford law finals with first class marks in 1913, but was refused a degree. The CA rejected her claim to become a solicitor, saying only men were "persons" within the legislation. In 1920 she finally became a Bar student. But died in childbirth in 1921.

I have never seen coverage of a live trial, one involving allegations of multiple sex attacks on multiple women, framed in a more distasteful way. It's not 'Fame under fire' it's a rape trial. And it involves actual women. And this from the *checks notes* BBC
BBC screengrab from within their Russell Brand trial coverage. Image of Brand in 70s-style aviator glasses, with earpods in, blank expression. Long dark wavy hair, black and grey beard, dark unbuttoned shirt. All on a fire red/orange and black background
BBC logo top and centre, underneath a subdeck reading: Fame Under Fire. Then the headline 'Russell Brand On Trial'.
The words 'fire'and 'trial' are coloured to look like they are glowing orange at the bottom

'The French Window.' (1942) There are so many ways of painting pictures within pictures. Blurring the image within the image, darkening it, making it faint; painting it in broad strokes. Here, Harley Griffiths makes his work more discernible to us than most artists do.

The art of the silhouette has its name from Étienne de Silhouette (1709-67) whose economic reforms made his name an insulting synonym for penny-pinching. And because he made paper profiles in his spare time ... well you get the idea. Anyway, here is a #silhouette machine of the 18th century:
A machine to make 'shadow portraits' - silhouettes. This machine's work was called LIMOMACHIA. Such machines were invented to replace popular freehand cutting, and the inventors coined their machines with scientific sounding terms like 'Prosopographus', 'Ediograph' Physionotrace' and 'Limomachia'.
