Lovely celebration last night of the Poetry off the Page Project with PI Julia Lajta-Novak and team (and performances by Kat François!) Its many outputs (podcasts, web resources, monographs, special issues) will be integral to poetry performance studies for decades to come. Congrats to all involved👏

Very cool CFP for a Journal of Beckett Studies special issue on Beckett & Entropy. Specifically seeking submissions on how materiality, colour, climate, desire, language and affect tend toward concinnity, unpredictability, irreversibility in Becketts writing. samuelbeckettsociety.org/2026/09/25/c...

Sorry to read that the London Gate Theatre is closing. A few years ago, I wrote a little (in "Flann O'Brien: Acting Out") about its inaugural April 1979 production of "At Swim-Two-Birds", directed by founder Lou Stein, & its importance to Flann O'Brien's theatrical revival on the 1980s London stage.

I was writing about Joyce's story "An Encounter" and wanted to find out what "a jerry hat with a high crown" (which the "queer old josser" is described as wearing) looks like. After some light Googling, I choose to believe this is what Joyce wants his reader to picture here.
