For #SmallPoemSunday, @tomsnarsky.bsky.social here is Field Document, collected in *Dance On*, forthcoming from Wordrunner Press, November 15:
Field Document

I saw a woman on fire,
how she was burning,
I saw nothing like smoke,
only the eyes in a flame
clear like thought
never is. You can hear
this and not believe it
and she will not care.
Her eyes, though, do
see it all, finally.

In The Swamp (1900), Klimt uses dense surfaces and dark tones to depict nature without comfort. He also removes the horizon, trapping the viewer in a thick mosaic where water and weeds become a single, suffocating pattern.

One unfortunate side effect of the Lit Studies/CW divide is that scholars of contemporary lit don’t spend much time talking to working writers. I think that our research is poorer for it.

Hello Jameela,
I hope you're having a great week. My name is Jack David, and I am a Senior Editor at ECW Press. I recently spent some time exploring your poetry collection, Dead, and I was deeply impressed by your evocative language, sensory imagery, and the way you merge ekphrastic art with explorations of desire, ancestry, and the natural world. Your work is richly textured, offering readers a vivid, immersive experience that lingers long after the final page.Subject to reviewing additional material, there may be scope for a broader discussion regarding potential fit within ECW Press's adult literary, poetry, and culturally engaged publishing program.
If this is of interest, I would be delighted to hear from you. Keep being awesome!
Warm regards,

All the hope gone hard. That is a city.
The blind houses, the cramped dirt, the broken air, the sweet ugliness, the blissful and tortured flowers, the misguided clothing, the bricked lies the steel lies, all the lies seeping from flesh falling in rain and snow, the weeping buses, the plastic throats, the perfumed garbage, the needled sky, the smogged oxygen, the deathly clerical gentlemen cleaning their fingernails at the stock exchange, the dingy hearts in the newsrooms, that is a city, the feral amnesia of us all

Dialogue

Judith and her Maidservant (1613-14)

Where shall we put the head?

It drips through the basket.
Put your hair in braids tonight, my love.
Set pearls in your ears.

We have tasks. Tasks that require
a weapon. Tie your laces. Bring

a basket. Bring your mother's
basket, the one that could hold

a pig's head. Bring a white cloth.

Come prowl. Lest we forget how keenly we loved, Martha Zweig riverriverbooks.org/store/
FINALE
When in doubt, do mischief.
When it hurts, it will let you know. Follow the gleam in the eye of the needle into the haystack, into mouse & its mite, slow hottening heart of combustion.
Come prowl.
Lest we forget how keenly we loved, how long, help me inveigle our best & worst angels into new knots of invention, ours alone
who recall such havoc we wrought & so proud back in the day—that the sun rolled up gales of laughter into furious clouds, low ocean preening itself a cleanly silence over the drowned out loud.
