This is quite cool. My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

A point @annakornbluh.bsky.social has frequently made about labor intensification is that colleges cut support staff, offload essential work that support staff did onto faculty, then wonder why faculty aren’t being as “productive.” What once took our Asst. Dir. an hour, easily takes me twice that.

NASA picture of the day today is a real 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿beauty! This is a composite image of the ~5000yo Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis. The imposing Callanish Stones stand talk with their shadows spanning out across the glass. It's a super clear sky, but looks cold. Above the central stone is a strange figure-of-8 shape of dots. This is the location of the Sun, at noon, on various different days across the year.

A book should NOT be req'd for tenure--esp now w/ the inordinate pressures on peer review. It puts untenable demands on scholars & publishers AND enables tenure committees to shirk their duty & blame presses for killing jobs/careers instead of actually engaging scholars' work. It's infuriating.

An AI post of Poulnabrone Dolmen, though this one is reasonably realistic and not as obvious, you can tell it's AI as Poulnabrone does not have a sea view, also the gentians dont flower there like in the image. But this shows how difficult it is becoming to tell the real from fakeAnother AI image, this time I think it is supposed to be Knowth in the Boyne Valley, this is more obviously fake but only if you know the real siteAnother AI image supposedly representing the Grianán, this is pretty rubbishA truly terrible AI representation of Newgrange
