I don’t want to sound glib, but if a woman actually wanted to “make up a crime to ruin a man’s reputation,” they’d pick one that people actually give a shit about, like hurting a dog or something.

When this happened in Scotland, it really couldn’t have been more obvious that everyone - the SFA, the other teams, the press - just wanted it to go away as quietly as possible, so they didn’t have to deal with it. And there were some *incredible* shenanigans it’d take forever to explain.

UAE officials have warned the UK government that the severity of Man City's punishment could undermine their appetite for future grand-scale commitments in Britain, according to people familiar with the matter
They consider the Premier League's actions to have an influence on the bilateral state relationship, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing undisclosed information
The extraordinary pressure comes after Andy Burnham faced criticism, including from within government, for saying Man City's Abu Dhabi owners should not be disqualified specifically because of the investment they bring to Britain

Cannot explain how much I hate the Labour policy suggestion of the government paying disabled employees wages for 6 months to encourage employers to hire out-of-work benefit claimants. Essentially admitted businesses will only hire disabled people if they’re free, & making the taxpayer responsible.

While they protest, someone, somewhere will get an operation scheduled earlier, a cancer diagnosis quicker, a loved one home from hospital sooner - thanks to the software that those protesters would switch off.
Here is what you won't hear. Trusts using the software have recorded:
• 117,000 additional operations
• 14.3 per cent reduction in discharge delays for long stay patients
• 5.6 per cent improvement in the number of people receiving a cancer diagnosis within 28 days

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

I posted this in a Reddit discussion about welfare spending, and I’m sharing it here because, frankly, I feel like this is a reality that not enough non-disabled people seem to understand.
Here’s the thing - there’s this constant insistence surrounding the long term sick and getting them back to work. Yet, there’s never actually any acknowledgment to the reality of this, that long term sickness can affect your ability to do work, and, as a result, affects the willingness of employers to hire you. Sure, there’s anti-discrimination legislation to protect disabled people, but, the reality is, employers “hiring the best people for the job” can mean that many disabled people are shut out regardless.
