to be clear, it's not at all clear that the Democrats have these people either, but the GOP definitely doesn't

The Lead Paint Theory of Anti Gentrification holds that activists can prevent displacement and preserve housing affordability by preserving neighborhood disamenities and blocking investment in quality of life improvements like parks, bike lanes, and libraries. It does not work.
Tweet from “rent controller OG”

Taking down freeways in some situations would open the community to gentrification—what protects the community is the damn freeway.

I think an underrated reform would be to pay pols a ~obscene salary (like 500k/yr) but stipulate that it be their sole source of income. Everything else in blind trust and publicly disclosed. Don't like it? Don't run for office.

There is something so insidious about the "only take them as long as you need them" language that they always frame as a very compassionate moderate position. My brain has quirky chemistry. When I go off my meds, it gets bleak. Just like when I take off my glasses, I can't see as well.

The immense overmatch of US airpower can shatter a state whose regime is run by corrupt or fanatical incompetents that have already shredded whatever is left of popular support, infrastructure capacity and economic life. It is not in any way enough to shape what comes next.

🧵 from Israel. First a comment. This is an Israeli and American attack on Iran. There is no indication that anything imminent (apart from serious ongoing support for terrorism) was planned by Iran against Israel or the US. This isn’t preemptive, but where Israel is concerned it is with reason. 1/
