finished silent hill townfall and it's so interesting bc it feels like a game that gives you what so many people constantly say they want, ie a game that doesnt hold your hand at all and demands a high level of engagement, and it turns out people really seem to hate that!

im mad how much of a stink certain critics made about not liking this game before release. the one concrete claim i saw was that combat was tuned poorly—and how bad could that have been if they fixed it in like two days—with every other complaint feeling completely ungrounded in the actual gameplay

Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.

36 hours left. Just under $2000 to reach the More Money for Artists stretch goal. And then we’re actually looking at the last stretch goal, which is the “play on social media” version. Amazing. Let’s go! #pbta #dnd #psirun2e

That Democrats see mass-murdering fascists dismantling the country as nothing more than "colleagues they dislike" is why we've been in a non-stop plummet. Incredible this is still debatable, by people who ostensibly oppose fascism, ten years into this?!?

this exploitation model--perks, rewards, and special services that entice the target to spend more time gambling--is precisely what casinos have been doing for decades (see Schull, Addiction by Design) and tech-gambling has been rapidly workshopping in the past few years (see Cassidy, Vicious Games)

You will need to compile libgenders yourself if a nonbinary isn't available for your platform.
Programming with Genders

Many different APIs have been developed that allow programmers to parse
and query the genders file. "libgenders" is a C API which can be linked
by including genders.h and linking the library libgenders. "libgendersplusplus"
is a C++ class built on top of libgenders. "Libgenders" is a Perl module
developed with Perl extensions. "Genders" is another Perl module, but offers
a more traditional Perl API than "Libgenders." Python bindings are also
available under a "Genders" class. The reader can learn more about these
libraries by reading the manpages libgenders(3), Libgenders(3) and Genders(3).
See "help(Genders)" for Python documentation.

The Supreme Court will NOT reconsider a grant of qualified immunity to prison guards who pepper sprayed an inmate on a hunger strike then stripped him naked and locked him in a freezing cold cell for 23 hours. The three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...
When Smith was first placed in the cell around noon, Van
Lanen told Smith that Smith could request a shower any
time and that he would come back to discuss “‘clothing and
stuff,’” but he never returned. Ibid. Three and a half hours
later, Smith requested clothing, bedding, and a mattress
from Lieutenant Timothy Retzlaff and asked to be moved to
a warmer cell given the cold. Retzlaff said he would check
with Van Lanen. Twelve additional hours went by with no
word from Van Lanen or Retzlaff. Then, around 3 o’clock in
the morning, a different officer told Smith that if he submitted to future wellness checks, he could have a smock,
but that otherwise, “he would remain naked and cold.” Ibid.
Smith declined. Another eight hours came and went without any word from Van Lanen or Retzlaff. Smith remained
naked and frigid overnight as the temperature dropped below freezing to 25 degrees. After 23 hours, prison staff removed Smith from the cell. Smith later stated that he
stayed on his feet for most of those 23 hours because it was
too painful to sit, lie down, or sleep.

The violence in Belfast is a reminder of something I don’t want to take for granted: The fascists here hoped the response to the depredations of ICE would be similar, with people turning in or attacking their neighbors. That it was the very opposite is worth remembering in this season of despair

Evidently a problematic student making repeated claims that any mention of Palestine is harmful to them, followed by the school's administrators turning on their own professor rather than call out the student's BS.
The language of the assignment read: “While she was not particularly politically active in her home country, protests in support of Palestine resonated with her on a personal level. She felt deeply affected by the violence against Palestinian civilians and was critical of the home government’s limited response.”

The two-page assignment, which was reviewed by the Guardian, mostly focused on other elements of the client’s case, including her family history, relationships and status as an immigrant. It made no additional references to Palestine or Palestinians, and no mention of Israel. But Talwar’s department had already been mired in multiple complaints and investigations about alleged antisemitism involving the same student, and faculty had been required to take anti-bias training as the school sought to address the “climate” in the department.

The school was also sued in late 2023 by an Israeli student in the same program over alleged antisemitism, including an assignment for which students were asked to review images drawn by children depicting violence by Israeli soldiers against Palestinian civilians. (A judge dismissed that lawsuit, twice).
