“In a secular age, I suspect that reading fiction is one of the few remaining paths to transcendence, that elusive state in which the distance between the self and the universe shrinks,” Ceridwen Dovey writes, in “Can Reading Make You Happier?,” (2015). newyorkermag.visitlink.me/WvVKG2

It's undeniably more difficult to successfully promote new books today as algorithms/A.I. make successful promotion a constant moving target. The writing community has been significantly diminished as so many supportive writers move around to other sites and spend less time online because of chaotic world events flooding timelines/feeds, as well as the relentless scams, cons, bots, fake author accounts and phony promoters wasting our time.
It's SO important for the writing community to come together and support fellow authors by reading & reviewing their books, and/or reposting their publication announcements.
The writing community is stronger when we stand together!

Instead of the Sunday newspapers, I think I'll read Endgame by Beckett. Same difference. “Then one day, suddenly, it ends, it changes, I don’t understand, it dies, or it’s me, I don’t understand that either. I ask the words that remain sleeping, waking, morning, evening. They have nothing to say.”

Trophy Fish

Cold sores
again
glisten
unkissable.

         My life
         with you
         is no longer
         my life.

The fish swims on
against the rapids,
hook still blazing
in its lip.

For the lovers. A poem Rilke wrote to Lou Andreas-Salomé. Translated by Franz Wright. Too often longing misses the point. Why should I cast myself out, when perhaps your influence is a simple thing to me, like moonlight at a spot by the window...

Obedience, coercion & the ability to push back: Mark Roberts reviews ‘A Simple Intervention’ by Yael Inokai
A simple Intervention is a powerful allegory of obedience and coercion and the ability to push back. The narrative is sparse and simple yet driven by a strong filmic imagery.
