Utterly delighted to share the cover for my novel, Mincemeat! On shelves in November. Painting by artistic magician Hannah Ireland & design by prolific virtuoso @toddatticus.com Lovely comments from the brilliant @catherinechidgey.bsky.social & @brannavan.bsky.social #pukapuka #MincemeatNovel
Front cover for a novel. It has a purple background and features a painting of a Labrador in mixed natural colours, who is facing the reader and wearing a folded paper hat with green and pink checks.

Block text against an ice blue background across the top of the cover gives the author and title:

ANTHONY LAPWOOD
MINCEMEAT

A quote beneath the title says:

"A wonderfully unsettling novel" - Catherine Chidgey "A wonderfully unsettling novel, shot through with emotional sleight of hand. In prose that feels drawn from a fever dream, Lapwood asks whether the truth about our families and ourselves is something we uncover or something we create. Elegant, haunting and unexpectedly funny.”

— Catherine Chidgey“A missing persons mystery that morphs into an Antonioni-esque existential thriller – Mincemeat is a constantly surprising and taut piece of work.”

— Brannavan Gnanalingam

Happy National Poetry Day, Aotearoa! Wishing you a day of words as sleek and captivating as Rebecca Hawkes' 'Trophy Fish', which features in the August issue of takahē. www.takahe.org.nz/rebecca-hawk...
Trophy Fish

Cold sores
again
glisten
unkissable.

         My life
         with you
         is no longer
         my life.

The fish swims on
against the rapids,
hook still blazing
in its lip.

We can't wait to reveal Vashti Johnstone's cover art for the August 2026 issue! As Pip Goldsbury says: 'Vashti Johnstone is a woman who won’t be pigeonholed. With a strong sense of self, she is a diva who sets herself apart, uniquely positioned in the world of art.' #takahēmagazine
A photo of Vashti Johnstone crouched over a canvas laid out on the floor. She has curly hair and wears a red t-shirt and pink pants with black boots. She’s holding a large paintbrush. Behind her is another of her paintings mounted on the wall.
Based in Greymouth, Vashti Johnstone is a contemporary painter whose practice is driven by a lifelong devotion to visual language. Since completing her Diploma in Painting at Aoraki Polytechnic (now Ara Institute of Canterbury, Timaru campus), she has continued to push her practice in energising and innovative ways, layering charcoal and paint into a colourful language that feels both grounded and otherworldly.

Ever wondered 'How to decipher a clothesline'? You're in luck, because Ann Palmer's essay on the topic will feature in the August issue of takahē! Brought to you by our brand new Essays Editor, Sharon Mazer.🖤 #takahē117 #takahēmagazine #essay #AnnPalmer
A photo of Ann Palmer who is smiling at the camera and wearing a pink jumper. A small white takahē logo in the corner is accompanied by the words: Ann Palmer, Essay, takahē 117. The small white takahē logo against a pink background with Ann Palmer’s bio: Ann was born in New Zealand, worked in London as a bibliographer, and then St Petersburg giving seminars for teachers of English. After several years in Porto, becoming a citizen and enjoying her new life there, she has returned to New Zealand. She spends her time writing and reading of course, and out with her camera. Street scenes, nature, art and architecture, people, seen in the artistic moment, translated into words.
