Sanctuary
 My mother’s orange oak table
Stained by the patina of
Tears and furnish polish –
The one that later went for
Prayerful firewood –
Sat heavy on its haunches,
Having legs decorated like stockings
Of an old duchess,
All garlands and balustraded seams.
In earlier times mum’s lame ducks
Would sit around it drinking tea,
Men who had left their minds in Normandy
And young girls with short skirts
And shorter memories
Forgetting that hearts will mend.
I was too young to have regrets
Armoured in childhood as I was. © Bernard Pearson

The power and control Israel has over Palestinian lives and deaths. It's an incredible stance to take. Palestinians need saving from Israel, and nothing else matters in the meantime. They have the right to resist the apartheid and genocide.
A quote from Gabor Mate 'Nobody ever asks how should Palestinians respond to Israel’s daily brutal treatment for 75 years.'

It's undeniably more difficult to successfully promote new books today as algorithms/A.I. make successful promotion a constant moving target. The writing community has been significantly diminished as so many supportive writers move around to other sites and spend less time online because of chaotic world events flooding timelines/feeds, as well as the relentless scams, cons, bots, fake author accounts and phony promoters wasting our time.
It's SO important for the writing community to come together and support fellow authors by reading & reviewing their books, and/or reposting their publication announcements.
The writing community is stronger when we stand together!

Insomnia
An appalling crack of light
Pours into my room,
Picking up in its cast
Specks, spiralling
Across this place
Where I can no
Longer find peace.
A little universe from hell.
It seems to draw me
Away from familiar
Weather, the arcadia of my life,
She, who rises and falls
Beside me in sleep.
I beached, marooned
By the baying rabble in
The courtroom of my head,
Cursing the crushed velvet, moth
Book marking a fold in the curtain,
For its good fortune, in being dead.

Good morning! Happy Friday! Here's my poem for #PoemsAbout #SheddingSkins. Thank you to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk
Poem:

Viper

She sloughed her old life like a snakeskin
the day the soldiers came,

each day she dresses herself anew,
school girl, servant, sweetheart—
while they swagger,
ramparts breached
they plant their flags,

never hear her rattle

nor notice how she slithers
through their spilled words,
fangs sheathed,

they disregard her—
seeing only body, not mind.

A shadow-life. Half-life gone.

She hopes one day for a new skin,
not paper-thin, unscaled,
luxurious as silk or velvet,
one she can settle in.

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:5-6

                                             Psoriasis
                           The parchment
On which a life is writ
                          Becomes a little less
                          Readable over time.
                          There are more crossings
                          Out the occasional
                          Archipelago of blue-black ink.

They say the disease I have
Is inherited, but so is life
                       The affected areas
                       Are hidden thankfully,
                       However, they still are sore
                       Still areas of conflict
                       Where tears are shed
                       And death occurs.
                       Not to be spoken about
In polite society. © Bernard Pearson
