B.C. port expansion could vanish threatened orcas, advocates warn
Environmentalists say they’re worried that an approved port expansion could cause irreversible damage to southern resident killer whales.

Will we have to change the logo for the Canucks when the local orca population goes extinct as a result of the Pacific Link pipeline? This is a massive environmental and cultural risk for BC. But our local Liberal MPs will just nod along with the Prime Minister.

Latest howler from Vancouver’s hapless mayor Ken Sim: Asked why ABC didn’t do more during their FOUR YEARS in power, Sim replied: “We’re still learning the ropes.” What a joke. Vancouver deserves so much better. #vanpoli

I am similarly going to condemn this action. Distracted driving is extremely dangerous and I see it so often in Vancouver as a driver, a cyclist and a pedestrian. By which I mean I have been hit by distracted drivers several times, and have loved ones who have been killed by distracted drivers.

Did the thing! Advance voting happens today, 7th, 10th, & 13th before Election Day on the 17th. Pete Fry as mayor, backed by a strong COPE presence on council are our best choices for affordability, health, and culture in Vancouver. Evict Ken Sim.

What Chip Wilson has in Vancouver, we actually want for everyone: ✔️A safe home ✔️Access to great pools ✔️A City Hall that works for them
It's Chip Wilson Day...

[group photo including ken sim and Chip Wilson]

We want everyone in Vancouver to have what Chip gets.Billionaires like Chip Wilson are buying politicians and elections to make the system work for them instead of us.

but what chip has in vancouver, we actually want for everyone:
- a safe home
- access to great pools
- a city hall that works for them

But instead Danielle Smith's favourite PM is using tax payer money to gamble on ever increasing greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions mean more towns like Summerland will be evacuated each summer. August will become smoke month for Western Canada.

A bold strategy would be public ownership to advance sustainable fuels that the world needs. Sustainable aviation and marine fuels are a major challenge for decarbonization. Canada could put our expertise into petrochemicals into solving these issues along with partners on the Pacific Rim.

We are getting a new public-owned oil pipeline. It's a weird position for a socialist organization to oppose public ownership. But this is a case where public ownership is a subsidy for the fossil fuel industry. Shielding them from the $30B of cost overruns and the risk that Asia goes green.

He closed renters' office, banned supportive housing, cut public services to give wealthy property owners $ they don't need, caused the eviction of countless renters ... ABC just voted for $18B asset manager Nicola Wealth's eviction of working families at Myron Manor. Now playing victim. Unreal.

A hope for the BC election is that the @bcgreens.bsky.social can break through in more ridings. Premier Eby is hoping that a divided right will make for an easy victory. But it also means that we are free to vote our conscience on the left and vote for leaders with principles.

Carney is truly the Reagan of Canada. A calming, paternalistic figure in a period of apocalyptic uncertainty who galvanizes the economy with short-sighted right wing fiscal policies. And like Reagan, every disaster that Canada encounters in the future will be traceable to his administration.

The policy of this government is to return massive profits to shareholders and executives and then use our tax dollars to subsidize the high cost of gas and diesel. It's a bad policy for economic equality, it hurts our economy, and it runs up the deficit for the benefit of wealthy corporations.

Every oil price shock is a reminder of the value of robust public transit & intercity transit. We live in a country where these shocks are a boon to one part of our economy at the expense of everyone else. Fair policy would tax these excess profits (these companies would still be wildly profitable).

Democratic Socialists YVR @demsocsyvr.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
This is a $2.1B subsidy. Canada is an oil producing country and oil companies are having their best years ever with profits increasing by billions of dollars. A sensible policy is a windfall tax on oil companies and using the revenue to invest in infrastructure that makes us less dependent on oil.

The best option is to weaken IP laws forced on us by NAFTA. Enact right-to-repair laws, shorten copyright, and make it legal to jailbreak tech for commercial purposes. We could make it so that Americans drive up to Canada to unlock their Teslas and iPhones.

The other obvious tool is putting on export taxes to double the pain on the USA. Aluminum, oil, potash, and electricity are all things that the US needs from us. The other obvious target is US tech, which is a major backer of Trump. Bring back the Netflix tax and ban new fed contracts with US tech.

Carney is a true neoliberal who sees all tariffs as bad. I'm worried he will buckshot tariffs, rather than see them as elements of an industrial policy. The play is to enact tariffs to build domestic industry and implement complimentary policies to support that development.
