A few years back the neighbor's weeping willow dropped a huge branch through my roof. Unhealthy trees aren't great!

Puget Sound transit priorities: 1. U-pick blueberry farms 2. Car dealerships 3. Suburban tech campuses 4. Golf courses … 42. Ballard

Meanwhile in Seattle SDOT has been training people to ignore these signs by using them to mean "local access only"

I don't think it's even tacit. On 6th Ave S in SoDo (between Industrial Way and Alaska) the City swept all the RVs and tents several weeks ago and at the same time a forklift was putting in eco blocks.

not only are US escalators slower, but they are way more expensive - and fail or are out of order at much higher rates than other countries

I'm not sure why Strauss spent so much time humiliating the women who came to speak before his committee with questions that were basically unrelated to the budget, like why service on his bus route hasn't been restored. Felt bad for both SDOT and mayoral staffers.

Maybe because SDOT has prioritization frameworks that don't include "because a council member complained a lot"?

Rivera also mentioned that she has no idea where the department is installing new school speed zone cameras in 19 locations. "Would love to know where those are because again, this goes back to communication back to the constituents. I don't know where those are." She voted for them last year.

I can think of several grants that SDOT has had to return in recent years because they didn't actually do the work. Who knows how many they didn't even apply for 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's a perfect day to tell SDOT to pedestrianize Barbara Bailey Way (were the Sunday farmers market sets up in Capitol Hill). Come get your market goods and then pop into the open house just around the corner.

I often see SPR employees drive onto this sidewalk to service the trash cans there. Saves them maybe 10 feet of walking, blocks the whole sidewalk, tears up the landscaping.
Screenshot from Streetview of the corner of 24th & Howell at Homer Harris Park. The trash and recycle bins are 20 feet inside the park, about 30 feet from the curb.

Bad apples? Seattle Police 'not a healthy tree' says city council member

Wilson's budget has me thinking about how Mayor Harrell wasted ~500k that CM Morales earmarked to do safety projects on LWB doing outreach, and then got a million+ $ grant from the state for the LWB safety project that had to be returned when he only let SDOT do a quarter of the project.

SDOT has great folks but there are a lot of SDOT employees who, frankly, need to feel less settled. The Harrell permission structure shouldn't stay in place for the entire Wilson administration.

For a second I wondered why there's a Japanese flag sign at 23rd & John and then I remembered it's the no turn on red sign 🇯🇵
Zoomed in photo that appears to show a Japanese flag sign in the background, partially obstructed by a tree branch and framed in the foreground by a bus shelter.Second picture taken from closer to the sign. Unobstructed, it reads "No Turn on Red 🔴"

It's also telling about the state of SDOT as an agency. When businesses complained about the barrier a few blocks from here SDOT dug it up and moved it (narrowing the bike lane) within weeks. Yet this problem has gone on for months and they haven't done anything to prevent it from happening again.
