Salicylic acid engages central metabolic regulators SnRK1 and TOR to govern immunity by differential phosphorylation of NPR1
The immune signal SA triggers metabolic changes to activate SnRK1 while inhibiting TOR. These central metabolic kinases antagonistically phosphorylate the key immune regulator NPR1, thereby coupling cellular metabolic state to systemic acquired resistance.

Mutually beneficial interactions between bacteria and Arabidopsis promote phosphorus nutrition and growth
Over 20% of root-associated bacteria promote Arabidopsis seedling growth under phosphorus (P) deficiency in a host-dependent manner. Further analyses showed that P-deficient plants secrete malate to attract Acinetobacter species to the rhizoplane, where the bacteria utilize plant-secreted nitrogen and carbon sources to fuel P mobilization that benefits both parties.

Plant roots can sense and grow away from decaying plant material through a newly described response called saprotropism, which is triggered by pH changes during decomposition! 🧪 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
This figure depicts rotting decay between the roots of two plants. The roots are diverging away from this spot of rot.

Fungi and other microbes break down dead plant material in the soil. By doing so, they release acidic chemicals that spread outward like a warning signal. Nearby roots sense this acidic zone before touching the decay and bend away from it.
