But is it *Renwick & Marshall* surprising? #Stuff
ALEXEI SAYLE (glaring at camera): WHO ARE YOU looking at?
WOMAN (into mic): But it doesn't end there.

Henceforth, my headcanon is that S18 of #DoctorWho was massively retro-inspired (probably via tachyons) by the films of Christopher Nolan.

I'm going to tell you a story and then, at the end, I'm going to ask you if anyone happens to have the niche knowledge I need to help... The story begins, as so many of my stories do, in an ancient church in the middle of a city. But it's not now. And it's not hundreds of years ago. It's the 1960's

Oh my word. I'm sure it wasn't *that* long ago I went on a bit of an online hunt for behind-the-scenes photos from Sapphire & Steel. I largely drew a blank. Maybe I missed a trick? Maybe something changed since then? Either way - there's no longer a shortage. 🤩 www.shutterstock.com/editorial/im...

Under the desert sun, with just a smattering of clouds in the sky, a burly man with a white goatee in a brown jacket and baseball cap steps out from the driver’s seat of a red pickup truck. He stares intently off to the left of the frame.

Politics with a small ‘p’ : saying “bollocks” without actually saying “bollocks”.
Laura Kuenssberg: [If business isn’t making more cash, then the] economy will be in a worse position.
Steve Rotheram: That is demonstrably not true.Steve Rotheram: Through the devolved authorities, we have seen you can get better growth [than the centre would provide for those areas.]

Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

At least it provides brief respite from the R2 gang telling me ceaselessly, breathlessly, incessantly about “Stirling” and “Chaka Khan”. Apart from the ones that tell me how to listen to Chaka Khan live from Stirling *on* my smart speaker. 🤬

The RNLI is the closest you will ever get to actual Batman. When rescue is visibly, viscerally, obviously impossible; when the water is a smothering, thundering black wall and the wind is screaming straight from Hell; when you are absolutely going to die: someone’s hand pulls you out and you don’t.

I dunno. Suspicious old fella with dubious motives embroils regular joes in chaotic spree through time/space/reality. Ends up witnessing what happens each time intellectual hubris trumps basic empathy. (Spoiler: recurring swarms of stunted sociopathic child-monsters, destruction & death.) With gags.

This thread is great overall, but this point in particular has always been true: most security breaches happen because there’s a lot of boring tedious stuff that has to be done, it only takes one mistake, and there are normally plenty of mistakes to choose from.

This echoes an experience I’m sure a great many people have had. Some ignore context and leap straight for “I’ve deduced something remarkable!” Others recognise a far more likely explanation: they’ve been led there carefully, deliberately, and are experiencing the result of Damn Good Teaching™.
