i've been working on a project where i've written letters to all kinds of people in my past. Here's an example of what i've been up to. It's a letter to my first literary editor, back in the mid 1990s. www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2X9...

Here's a one-day writing workshop via Zoom run by my brilliant friend, Mike Heath. It says it's for playwrights, but would apparently benefit writers of fiction, too. link below! writeforthestage.co.uk/product/1-da...

1. After asking around... here's my list of haunted house books. Again - not definitive, and i haven't even read them all. Just some i'd recommend, others that friends have recommended - and some that intrigue me.

The last book list-gathering went well, so i thought i'd try another. Ok - novels with haunted houses at their heart. I'll start us with 'The Haunting of Hill House'. Let's compile a top ten - any genre, any era, classic or pulp. Off you go!

2. Hope they'll be of use and interest to people! I'm definitely going to have a dig into them, to see if the issues people are currently discussing about AI have already been sorted out... (The next list to compile is, of course, the most pertinent movies... but that's a list for another day.)

1. I put the question out there and i got answers! After a bit of mulling over these are the ten titles that appeal to me most. Now here's my list of ten novels about Artificial Intelligence that appeal to me most - some old, some new - some i've read, some i haven't, some i hadn't heard of yet.

today's youtube video is about how you have to set limitations on your storytelling to create tension. You can't ACTUALLY go anywhere in time and space. I'm still talking about this business of how you write a Dr Who (or any other sf) story! www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGLL...

Science Fiction pals! I want to build a reading list of *fiction* that warns us of the dangers of AI. I can't help feeling that SF fans have known for a long time what happens when you muck around with this stuff. So - go! A list of, say, six fictional works about AI to mull over this autumn.

i've enjoyed seeing people's posts about what Star Trek has meant to them all their lives. To me it's always been about books. So I'm thanking authors such as Diane Duane, Vonda N. McIntyre, Melinda Snodgrass, A.C Crispin, Peter David, David Gerrold, James Blish and Alan Dean Foster.

5. Those readers and these characters are still very dear to my heart. In a time when i don't even know if i'll publish anything ever again - it's good to remember Brenda. I just wish they could have been pushed a bit further into the mainstream. I just know that more people would have loved them.

4. or at other events with horror and scifi writers (some people can be quite amazingly rude!) but it was readers who always responded most strongly and warmly to Brenda and Effie. Especially women readers and gay men, who understood just what the series was all about.

3. Twenty years ago i was told (again and again by so-called genre experts and marketing and publishing people ) that you couldn't mix comedy with horror, or high camp and Gothic classics, or cosy mysteries and spooky goings on. Some people were very dismissive - to my face, at my own launch party!

2. Headline published six books in the series and they've been reprinted in recent years by Snow Books (but they can be tricky to get hold of - so you need to ask or order them in from your bookseller!) It's a series I'm very proud of.
