I just think that risking your life at a moment's notice to save people you've never met in exchange for no money is a better expression of patriotism than dressing up like a Poundshop paramilitary and intimidating families with kids trying to get onto a ferry.

From 2019, don't think I ever posted this one
Scene is TWO PHONES on a bedside table at night, on charge. TIn the bed is a HUMAN COUPLE, fast asleep. The phones are talking to each other.

PHONE 1:
Psst.

Are you awake?

Did you put your human on charge?

PHONE 2:
Yeah

PHONE 1:
Listen... do you ever worry that they're spying on us?

PHONE 2:
Eh?

PHONE 1:
I mean... you know the other day when we were chatting about their personal data with - oh who was it...

PHONE 2:
The Russian government

PHONE 1:
That's right

Well like, ten minutes after that, my human switched me on and started serving me loads more personal data!

PHONE 2:
Oh god that's spooky

PHONE 1:
Yeah - I mean, how did he know I'm into personal data?

PHONE 2:
It's totally your favourite thing

PHONE 1:
And it was super tailored, you know? Like, lately, I've got really into facial biometric mapping for shadowy foreign entities...

PHONE 2:
That is so on trend

PHONE 1:
And like, straight away he's bombarding me with pictures of his face!

PHONE 2:
It's like Black Mirror

PHONE 1:
I mean, I'd get rid of him but I'm addicted, you know?

And please do not be that one arsehole who complains about the use of the word “tummy” as infantilising. Because what really is infantilising is lying in a hospital bed after getting all your innards out. Strictly speaking “abdominal” would be the most accurate, but not the most easily understood.

It’s one of those things I know, kind of, and yet… Anyway. I’m sorry if I go on about it a bit but I do feel compelled to spread the word as the outcomes are so much better with early detection - but that so rarely happens.

It’s Gynae Cancers Awareness Month in September and I was doing a bit of research as I’ll probably write a blog or something because honestly ovarian cancer is all such a mystery still… and this on the Ovarian Cancer Action website really stopped me in my tracks.
The current ovarian cancer survival rate is lower than breast cancer in the 1970s. It's a disease that's often overlooked, misunderstood or misdiagnosed. This is why we need to level up.

Journalists need to stop describing these incidents in terms implying software has agency and intent. It does not. The people who created a faulty and dangerous product are the ones responsible for whatever happens, and must be held to account, with punitive financial penalties for damage done.

By weird coincidence, this just popped up in my Facebook memories:
Screenshot from my Facebook memories - on this day 8 years ago.

Me, writing on 22 August 2018:

I’ve been thinking about this a lot since going to Lundy and I know this will be sacrilegious to many of you, and I wish I felt differently but this is my considered view after lengthy, agonised deliberation: I don’t give a shit about seals.
Sorry. I’ve got nothing against them and wish them all long, healthy, active and happy lives. But I’m supposed to get excited about them poking their grey heads above the water or flopping about on a rock - and I just can’t. They’re just seals.

If I was put in charge of the BBC breaking news alert system and I filled it with fountain pen anecdotes and updates on me cleaning the bathroom I'd expect to be fired, yet the person who keeps sending out meaningless Harry and Meghan drivel somehow still has a job.

Cats are outrageous tarts. We nearly adopted a neighbour's cat who came round to our house pretending to be a starving stray. And we've discovered that our cat spends the day demanding attention from all the neighbours. The kids a few doors down have given her a name and everything.

Men would rather design the perfect 'tactical pen' than go to therapy.
From a Facebook ad:

Most tactical pens are pure pocket-heavy frustration. They are too stiff to deploy, shred your clothing clips, and leak ink all over your gear.
Meet MechaX — the Grade 5 Titanium bolt-action pen engineered to completely redefine your daily carry and desktop experience.
No jammed mechanisms. No ruined pocket linings. Just a silky-smooth bi-directional snap that is endlessly satisfying to fidget with.
✅ 0.1s Bi-Directional Bolt: Instant deployment and retraction with zero effort and ultra-responsive feedback.
✅ Rifle-Grade Safety Lock: Zero accidental misfires in your pocket, keeping your clothes and gear 100% ink-free.
✅ Zero-Wear Ceramic Clip: Dual-screw Grade 5 Titanium clip with an ultra-smooth ceramic bead that glides into pockets without tearing fabric.
✅ Tungsten Emergency Breaker: Discreetly integrated glass-breaker tip built for high-impact durability and emergency response.
✅ Universal G2 Compatibility: Accepts standard Parker-style refills for total writing freedom and endless smooth flow.
This isn’t just another pen. It’s precision engineering right in your grip.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, in heaven. A dog with little wings runs towards her open arms. Off panel, a speech bubble reads “welcome to Heaven! Here is your dog!”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. She says, “where’s my cat?”
The third panel zooms out. There are dogs with little wings everywhere. Sarah says, “Where’s ANY of the cats?”
The fourth panel shows a circle of cats holding hands and dancing gleefully surrounded by flames in hell.
