It’s one of the things I keep remembering from Michael Brown’s murder — that development was built from inception with tiny, decorative sidewalks. No way two boys could walk side by side on them. (I think most strollers would be hard pressed to fit). So the boys were walking in the street.

Lots of places, it’s just not safe to walk to school. No sidewalks, or decorative ones (12-18 inches of sidewalk is just for show, not for walking). Drivers distracted, windows closed, unable to see anyone less than 5’2” over the hood of their Kid Crusher 6000. Unenforced speed limits. No buses.
