Today I'm starting a Beginners BSL course at University of Edinburgh - having wanted to do this for decades. Uni staff are striking and I support them 100%. My course leader's not striking and probably should. I asked the protesters permission to attend my class. STOP THE CUTS: principal@ed.ac.uk
A leaflet that says:

WHY ARE WE STRIKING?

Senior management at Edinburgh University plan devastating cuts
Edinburgh's senior management is pushing ahead with £140 million in cuts - the biggest ever made by a Scottish university - despite not being in deficit and holding over £3 billion in reserves. Staff numbers have already been dramatically reduces, ~ 90 programmes have already been
cancelled and management refuses to rule out mass redundancies. Staff
are on strike because we care about the quality of students' education
and support systems, which is at risk from the proposed cuts.

This means

Up to 1800 staff could lose their jobs
Courses and degree programmes will close.
Students will face larger class sizes, fewer contact hours, and will also
have significantly reduced access to readily available vital support
services, including accommodation, finance or mental health support
Staff on casualised contracts, such as tutors and demonstrators, and
in proessional services - i.e., course adminstrators, library and IT -
have already lost their jobs and livelihoods, with remaining
colleagues facing unsustainable workloads

Industrial action is always a last resort

It's never a decision we take lightly: to lose perhaps several weeks' pay, to disrupt as much as half of Semester 1 teaching, and to miss the activities we've often played a key role in planning and that we care about. But we are striking because management has sidelined staff and student concerns, while pushing ahead with a plan that will do lasting harm to the quality of education, research and student life at Edinburgh. This action is entirely avoidable, should management choose to engage with SU meaningfully. We have been open to talks from day one and hope senior
management will work with us to end this dispute as soon as possible,
protecting our jobs and our students' experience, education and vital
support services.

https://www.ucuedinburgh.org.uk/blog/squid-game-your-educationAn image of very kind and peaceful protesters. One holds a sign that says:

Support the staff & students!
Email PETER MATHIESON principalaed.ac uk

Tell him to stop the cuts
Save our staff, and Save our programes: Don't let them hold back the future of education!

Another says:
Cutting only environmental programmes in times of climate crisis? Where is the research in that? Someone holding a sign that says:
