Oooft - check those blades! Last weekend we tried scything at #Bellsquarry Wood community orchard in #Livingston. 🐛 We’ve spotted some broom moth caterpillars on young birch trees. Despite their name, they don't only feed on broom. Their caterpillars are also known to feed on bracken and a range of other plants and trees, including birch. 📸 Share your spots below, we'd love to see what you're finding!

Before ospreys were driven to extinction in Britain around 1916, one of the last nests is thought to have been in an oak tree on a little island at Loch Arkaig. The island was a fitting landmark then, for a fundraising swim inspired by the ospreys now back in residence nearby. 🧵 1/3

Devil's-bit scabious is a horrible name for such a pretty flower, which is in peak bloom across the country right now. The scabious part comes from its traditional use treating skin conditions, such as scabies. The roots look truncated, as if bitten off from below by Old Nick! 🧵 1/2

Lovely shots of our Loch Arkaig female, Aurora over the south coast of England on her migration south. 2nd year she has been spotted in Dorset. This summer she produced 1 egg but it failed to hatch. Fingers crossed for better luck next year. Bon Voyage 'til then Aurora!
