Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...
A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is. Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. Sorry, I don't know star wars lol

Reason I think this is neat is that there's provably unexplored space left to check out. It's cool if you want to make a roguelike deckbuilder but you absolutely do not have to.

Any analysis of the Iran War that doesn't start and end with the fact that an entire cottage industry of think tankers and lobbyists and their friends in Congress were frothing at the mouth for literal decades for this got exactly what they wanted and it failed immediately and totally is wrong.

The Connecticut Sun's final game is tonight. Connecticut and its fans bought into the WNBA at its low point, turning a profit when the NBA's owners saw the league as a moneypit, only to lose their team now that everyone sees big bucks in women's sports. Some thoughts on the setting of the Sun:
Surprisingly, moving the team to Connecticut worked. In 2010, the Sun became the first WNBA team to turn a profit — during a global recession, and during the league’s nadir of popularity. The casino in the middle of nowhere became a fortress. The Sun has won 64.5 percent of its home games. It developed a real fanbase and made four WNBA Finals.

The Connecticut Sun is not the first WNBA team to die. (Enjoy this haunting image of the mascots for the Sacramento Monarchs, Utah Starzz, Detroit Shock, and yes, the Houston Comets, hanging out, smiling, not realizing that death will soon come for them.)

But it’s the first WNBA team to die for this reason: Not because nobody cared, not because it couldn’t make money, not because it couldn’t find fans or win games, not because the league is shrinking … but actually because the league is growing. The Sun helped the WNBA survive, but the period of mere survival is over. The league is moving on to bigger markets and bigger money and leaving Connecticut behind.

In May, it was reported that U.S. Soccer was exploring possibilities for a cross-competition women’s tournament that would operate similarly to the Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Here’s the case for why something similar to an open cup should definitely exist in women’s soccer: ✍️ for @theixsports.bsky.social

It's time to create a U.S. women's 'open cup' | The IX Soccer
A cross-league competition would facilitate growth and familiarity across professional and pre-professional leagues in the U.S.

The sunny side of this delusion is the computer gives you a flying car and makes it so you don't have to work. The blackpill one is that it wipes us out via some cinematic method TBD. Two futures you don't actually have to live in. Both are abdications, and embarrassingly childish on their face.

Healthy S.F., the city's healthcare program for the uninsured, has seen enrollment jump 39% this year. That may be only the beginning. As more San Franciscans lose Medi-Cal, one Mission District clinic is already seeing more uninsured patients. missionlocal.org/2026/09/more...

This makes me hopeful. This number is aspirational but nowhere near out of reach: a working professional could realistically cash out their 401k and buy off a public official. Owning a senator is more attainable for most Americans than home ownership.
