In May, it was reported that U.S. Soccer was exploring possibilities for a cross-competition women’s tournament that would operate similarly to the Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Here’s the case for why something similar to an open cup should definitely exist in women’s soccer: ✍️ for @theixsports.bsky.social

Why is there no cross-league U.S. women's cup competition like the Lamar Hunt tournament? @catabush.com makes the case for one: www.theixsports.com/the-ix-socce...

If you’re a fan of a major sports team, chances are they’ve hosted a Fourth Wing night recently. If you’re wondering what that means, and why teams are suddenly partnering with a dragon fantasy novel, I’ve got you covered. My report from Centennial, where hundreds flocked for soccer and a signature:

the year is 2050. football clubs are running budget deficits akin to the US government. phil jones hired as club president, promises to "balance the budget." runaway transfer fee inflation means manchester united take out too many loans and default, kicking off a great depression.

The Denver Summit's Saturday game had an unusual theme: a novel about dragons. "Fourth Wing" author Rebecca Yarros has begun a tour of collaborations with sports teams across the country, indicating a new direction for marketing in the NWSL and beyond. 🐉 ⚽ @catabush.com reports from Colorado:

if something is running slowly, it is almost never bc you chose a dynamic array instead of a linked list. it's probably bc you just need to make a CTE instead of doing a billion joins in your sql query glad im spending 3 semesters to learn the differences in time complexity for pop() operations tho

Played real footy for the first time in ~4 years (since high school). They put me at left back, was getting burned in transition when wide, so tried inverting (in my head I was calafiori). Still got burned. Conclusion: I should not play LB. Was also so much fun even if I was a training cone.

Daniel Job is a really interesting guy and his transfer to FC Dallas raises a lot of questions about process, player evaluation, and league translation. In the closer look, I try to flesh out what a talent eval workflow could look like, and why it's harder than just "this player good."

This summer, MLS teams spent a record-breaking amount of money on player transfers: $188 million. That's a 65% increase year-over-year and takes the yearly total to over $410 million, twice what it was in 2022. I dug into the data for @theguardian.com: www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Not sure the West is ready to resume facing a Dejan Joveljic who gets dependable chance creation. Was such a crucial part of the LA Galaxy attack when they won MLS Cup in 2024 – a huge shot in the arm for Seattle with 13 games left.

SKC are treating MLS like career mode. Start a new save, sell half the team, give yourself as much $ as possible to work with, go out and sign your players. It's insane and risky, but they have unprecedented flexibility, as Arman describes here. Will they take their time or spend it all now?
